ピアノ先生の奥様が亀清のロビーのピアノを弾いてくれました。我が息子がピアノを習っているけど、さすがこの先生；指の動きがマジック！
One of our guests today, Mrs. Oku, is a piano teacher, and she graced us with some of her beautiful music. Our oldest son is taking piano classes, but the teacher just mesmerized us with her amazing finger movements.

松大でのインバウンドサミットの会議
先週の木曜日に松本大学で、そして金曜日に長野県庁で、私とＮａｇａＫｎｏｗの雑誌の2人でオルガナイズしている長野インバウンドサミットの初会議が行われました。南木曽の妻籠宿から地獄谷の野猿公園まで、そして上高地からこの千曲市まで、インバウンドの観光客を対応しているそれぞれの現場にいる方が集まりました。そして、県の観光課長の関さんと県の観光協会長の恵崎さん等、行政の方も参加なされました。良い話し合いが出来たので次につなげるように既に計画しております。信州の良さを海外からの観光客により知られるように！
Last week (Thursday at Matsumoto University and Friday at the Prefecture Gov't offices in Nagano City), we held the first preliminary meetings for a Nagano 'Inbound' Summit. 'We' being myself and Tom & Ken from NagaKnow Magazine. We are already planning on building on the success of the first meetings, all in order to make Nagano's natural and cultural wonders better known overseas.

昨日オーペンしたラーメン屋さん「一世」に旅館青年部と一緒に新年会の二次会で行ってみました。浅草で人気ある「ほっぴー」を初めて飲んでみました。ちょっとした渋いお店でした。
Along with the other ryokan junior guys, after our official New Year Dinner, we checked out the new ramen shop in town, Isse.

テレビ信州の取材で、峰竜太さんが亀清旅館に来てくれまし
た。「汗をかかせてほしい」と言われましたから、お風呂掃除をやれせました。カメラの前で格好を付けるだけと思ったら、峰さんが全部をものすごくまめで掃除してくれました。露天風呂も！とにかく、峰さんが細かいで、私は懇親しました。亀清も、この戸倉上山田温泉も、色々見て、アドバイスをくれました。

Another TV crew came to our inn today, this time with actor Ryuta Mineh. We got to put Mineh-san to work, cleaning the mineral baths, chopping wood, and running errands, all for the cameras. In return for his hard work, he got to spend the night with us. Here he is pictured enjoying a Kamesei dinner.

雛人形研究家
須坂や屋代、隣りの坂城町、上田、そして小諸のこの周辺が「雛街道」と言われているぐらいに雛人形が盛んでいると、今日のお客様のこの是澤先生に教えて頂きました。この辺は旧暦ですから3月ではなくて、4月3日に合わせて人形を飾る。我宿に美咲ちゃんと言う娘が生まれたから人形を飾るのは楽しみにしています。
The area stretching from Suzaka in the north to Komoro in the south is known for its rich collection of Hina Dolls. Or so I was informed by our guest, Prof. Koresawa. We are right on the border of influence from Tokyo and Kyoto, and so the dolls from the Edo period are a mix of the two styles, according to the Professor. Now that we have a daughter in our household, we will look forward to displaying our dolls in conjunction with the 03-April Hina Doll Festival.

Most of Japan got hit by some good snowfall today, including our little spa town, Togura-Kamiyada Onsen. Our two boys took their sled to the park behind our inn and had a blast.
日本のほとんど全国が雪になりました。戸倉上山田温泉もそうでした。我が息子2人がそうりを持って、亀清の裏の中央公園でたっぷり滑りました。
新年会シーズンが続いています。今回に泊まっていただいたグループは面白いメンバーでした。皆、お神輿かつぎ仲間でした。私も何度もおみこしをかついだ事がありますが身長が合わないから難しくて。。。皆様、頑張って！それか、「わっしょい！」と言った方が良い？
These guys are part of a group that go from town to town, festival to festival, to help out carrying the omikoshi portable shrines. I've participated in such activities in the past for our local festival, but with my height, it makes it difficult. Anyways, good luck, guys!
戸倉上山田温泉の旅館組合の行事で3月まで亀清のロビーがアートギャラリーになりました。版画家の金子先生が東京から来てくれました。本人が見えたお陰で、色々とそれぞれの作品の説明を頂きました。やっと、'Whisper Whisper'と言うタイトルの意味が分かりました！
Until the end of March, Kamesei's lobby has been turned into an art gallery, featuring the woodblock print work of Kunio Kaneko. The sensei himself came up from Tokyo and spent the night with us. Here he is pictured in front of 'Whisper Whisper'.
この千曲市の版画家、森ばくろ、の家・スタジオ・ギャラリーです。杏で有名な森にあります。「杏の里 版画館」です。今日、私が始めていってみましたが、残念ながら休館でした。森さんは芭蕉の俳句の版画が多いので1つな作品が姨捨駅に展示してあります。私が良くお客さんに連れて行きます。
Our town's native-son woodblock print artist, Mori Bakuro, lives and has his studio and gallery in this classical building. I went to see it for the first time, but unfortunately it was closed. Mori-san patterns a lot of his prints after the haiku works of Bassho, and one of the prints is on display at Obasute Station. 2月の頭にそれぞれの村が道祖神を綺麗に作り直して、子供達がワラの馬(初うま）を車に乗せて遊んで、手作りの餅を食べたりと言う習慣が昔からありました。亀清の親戚がこの初うまを作ってくれて、ロビーに飾ってあります。長野伝統を感じれます！
There is a tradition here in Nagano for local villages to re-make their 'Dosojin' road-side gods at the beginning of February every year. Kids gather and eat home-made mochi sticky rice and play with horse pull-toys made out of straw. Our uncle made these horses for us, and we have them on display in our lobby -- a little connection with the area's traditions.
