銀座通りの流木行灯
戸倉上山田温泉の冬のイルミネーションは昨日、片付けられた。でも、既に、次のイルミネーションを考えているようです。写真のように千曲川からの流木を使った灯篭をこれから作るようです。亀清旅館にも造りたいと思っています。
The Ginza here in our Togura Kamiyamada Onsen put away their Winter Illumination lights yesterday. The Business Association group is already planning their next 'Illumination': lanterns like the pictured one made from Chikuma River driftwood. I'm planning on helping out, too, and making some for our inn, Kamesei Ryokan.

近藤おじ様と国際交流協会員
千曲国際交流教会（この青い目の若旦那もメンバーです）の「知りたい、聴きたい」公演＃１が今晩、行いました。ネパールでNPO活動(MDSA: ネパール・ムスタン地域開発協力会）してはる近藤さんと言う元気、元気な８６歳のおじ様の講演でした。信州では標高１０００m以上でりんごの木を育てられないのに、近藤先生がネパールで３５００ｍのところで沢山育っています。詳しくはタイトルをクリックして下さい。
The Chikuma Int'l Exchange Assoc. of which I am a member, held a talk last night by a Mr. Toru Kondo, the 'genki'-est 86-year old I've ever met. He runs an NPO in Nepal called Mustang Development Association (MDSA). No one in Nagano can grow an apple tree above 1000m elevation, but Kondo-san's NPO is growing hundreds of them at 3500m+ in Nepal. For more info on this amazing man and his NPO, click on the title.

信州の飯山から小諸までの周辺がひな人形街道と呼ばれて、東京流と京都流の両方を混じったスタイルと伝統で日本の中で特別だそうです。亀清旅館ももちろんひな人形を飾りますが、隣の町の坂城宿ふるさと歴史館（Tel０２６８－８２－４１９３）でひな人形祭が行う予定です。この辺は旧暦を使うので大体３月から４月３日まで飾ります。ひな人形ファンにお勧めです。
Here in Nagano Prefecture, from Iiyama in the north to Komoro diagonal to the east, Hina Dolls have a rich history, blending the traditions of both Tokyo and Kyoto. Our inn, Kamesei Ryokan, will display our dolls from March to April 3rd. And in the neighboring town, at the Sakaki-juku Furusato Historical Museum, they will hold a Hina Doll Festival. Highly recommended for Hina Doll fans.

戸倉上山田温泉の名物の１つ：舞鶴のころうど
温度がまだ低いですが、冬はそろそろ終わります。従って、我々旅館青年部が冬のイルミネーションを今日、片付けておきました。その後、温泉街のメインの公園の隣りの舞鶴さんでうどんを頂きました。戸倉上山田温泉の名物の１つ：ころうどん。
Even though the temperatures are still low, winter is coming to an end. So today, the other junior innkeepers and I took down our winter illumination lights. Afterwards, we went to Maizuru's for udon and soba. My recommendation: 'koro' udon.
のれんが出ています！
信玄と謙信とアンディーとケン
去年のNHK大河ドラマ「風林火山」で川中島古戦場がスターになりましたので一時的に賑やかでした。今日、我が息子２人を連れて、久しぶりに行きましたが、静かでした。スポットライトが消えたようです。でも、信玄と謙信が相変わらず待っているようです。戦国時代の歴史を味わって、そして温泉に泊まるのはどうですか？（亀清から古戦場まで来るまで約３０分です。）
Last year, NHK (the national broadcaster) did a year-long 'drama' on two samurai lords from the neighboring prefectures, Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin. They had a series of battles at Kawanakajima, which is about 30 minutes from our inn by car. You can come and see some of the Sengoku Jidai history, and then come to our inn for an onsen bath!

お神楽カラオケ
この町のお神楽保存会が新年会を我が宿で行いました。私もメンバーで参加させて頂きました。布団引きは私にトレーニングしてくれた人に頼んで、私はお神楽の皆と一緒にわいわいがやがやしました。写真は哲夫さんのカラオケの場面。亀清の大広間の舞台で。
Our town's Kagura (Lion Dance) Preservation Society held their New Year party at our inn. As I am a member, I got to participate. I had the guy who taught me how to flip futons do the futon flipping tonight, and kicked it up with the Okagura guys. Pictured is Tetsuo-san belting a karaoke tune on the stage of our main banquet room.

軽トラ並び：薪集まり
千曲川の河川地でニセアカシアの木が定期的に切られて、その薪が「ご自由にどうぞ」で出てくると言う話が良く聞きました。この間、私が初めて取りにいってみました。そうすると、軽トラは30台も並んでいました！信州で薪ストーブをやっている人がこんなに多いか！さっすが長野ですね。
I'd heard that the Acacia trees along the banks of the Chikuma River are cut from time to time to thin them out, and that the wood is made available for free. The other day, I went for the first time to pick some up, and was surprised to see a line of 30 pick-up trucks. There sure are a lot of people in Nagano with wood burning stoves!

スノーモンキーが可愛い！
11日のブログで書いたＦｒｅｄｅｒｉｋさんからお猿の温泉の写真が届きました。ちょうど、長野放送テレビ局から連絡が来まして、そのスノーモンキースが本当に海外に人気ですか？と聞かれました。この写真の通り、ほんまに可愛いのです。人気のある訳です！
In yesterday's blog, I mentioned Frederik and the guys from Germany. He sent some pictures that he took of the snow monkeys. I just got a call from Nagano Broadcasting tv station, asking if the snow monkeys were really that popular overseas. Just look at these pictures -- how can you not want to go see them!

3 Germans and a Tengu ドイツ人3人と天狗
ドイツから来たスターさんとの友達は昨日、地獄谷の温泉のお猿を見て、今日は荒砥城(戸倉上山田温泉の上の山城）と松本城を見学する予定です。亀清旅館をベースにして、信州を冒険しています。せっかく天気が良かったから、駅に連れて行った途中で戸倉駅の上の天狗公園によりました。
Yesterday Frederik Stahr and his buddies from Germany went up to see the snow monkeys at Jigokudani, north of here. Today, they're doing castles. Arato, the mountain castle above our town here this morning, and Matsumoto this afternoon. In between, they made Kamesei Ryokan their base for exploring Nagano. Since the weather was so nice, we stopped off at Tengu Park on the way to the station.
