亀清の玄関のところのラベンダーが綺麗に咲いてきました。戸倉上山田温泉の周辺にラベンダー畑もありますのでファンを是非お越しになってください。
The lavender in front of our inn has turned this beautiful shade of purple. There are lavender fields, too, within walking distance of Togura Kamiyamada Onsen, so all of you lavender fans out there, come and check it out!

今日、姨捨駅に行きました。棚田を見ると、田植えの準備でお水を払っている田んぼが多かったです。田植えの時期ですね。明日は満月の予定で、話題の「田毎の月」と見るチャンス！
Today I went to Obasute Station. The terraced rice paddies were starting to be filled with water, so the planting will begin soon. These rice paddies are famous for the 'Tagoto-no-tsuki', the moon reflecting in the terraced paddies. Tomorrow is the full moon -- the perfect chance to see the reflections!
NHKのカラオケ番組「のど自慢」は今日、戸倉上山田温泉で生放送です。等温線商工会青年部委員海野さんが出ますので応援を宜しくお願いします。私も出たかったがどちらかというとマイクを離さない方なので駄目かな？
National TV broadcaster NHK will do their live karaoke program from Togura Kamiyamada Onsen today. I wanted to try out, but once handed the mike I don't like to give it back!

今朝は亀清が静かだったから久しぶりに朝市に参加できました。毎週日曜日の朝６時半から、戸倉上山田温泉の真ん中の公園で行います。私は布団上げがあった為に３０分しか参加できませんでしたが、昨日に焼いた手作りクッキーを売りました。日曜日の朝市と金曜日の夕市の皆様がこの温泉を盛り上がろうとしているので私も応援したいと思っています。口だけで応援するのではなく、こうやって朝早く起きて、自分で作ったクッキーを宿泊のお客様に販売するという形になる応援です。町興しというのは行政に任せたり、人にやってもらったりするのではなくて、自分自身が動かないと町興しにならない。「面倒くさい」「そんな時間が無い」などの悪の考えに負けないように頑張りましょう！
Kamesei Ryokan was a little quiet this morning, so I woke up early and went to the Sunday Morning Market to sell my home-made cookies. People talk about the town needs to do this, or people need to do that, but I try to be a do-er, not a talk-er. Getting my butt out of bed early and selling the cookies I baked myself at the market is how I try to help make the town a livelier place.

Acacia tempura
戸倉上山田温泉の真ん中を通る千曲川の周辺にアカシアの木が沢山あります。アカシアの蜂蜜が美味しいと良く聞いていましたので今年は初めてアカシア用のミツバチを見ました。そして、お昼に行ってみたレストランにアカシアの花の天ぷらが出ました。旬のもので感心しました。
Along the Chikuma River which flows through our town of Togura Kamiyamada Onsen are stands of acacia trees. I had heard that acacia honey is very flavorful, and this year for the first time I saw the beekeepers. At a restaurant in town here where I went for lunch, they served us acacia flower tempura. I imagined the trees and the bees as I ate it. Wonderful!

Shinshu Steak
亀清旅館の最新のプランで信州牛を生かせてしゃぶしゃぶかプチステーキの選択プランをやっております。今日はステーキの方を出しましたのでその写真をここで提供いたします。ただいまそのお皿をお客さんのお部屋からさげてきました。綺麗に召し上がられました。好評のようです。:)
Kamesei Ryokan's newest plan is a Shinshu Beef Special: choose either shabu shabu or steak. Tonight's guest choose the steak, and here is a picture of what Chef Takei prepared. I just brought the empty dish back from the guests' room, and it was perfectly empty -- I guess they liked it! 🙂

Are we dizzy yet?
毎朝は私が長男を連れて、通学の待ち合わせ場所まで連れて行きます。今朝は班長を待ちながら息子と友達がポールでぐるぐる回り遊びしていた。晴れていたし、やはり遊びたくなる天気ですね。
Every morning I walk our oldest son to the corner to meet up with his schoolmates for their walk to school. While waiting for the head honcho, or as they say in Japanese, 'honcho', the boys started twirling around the street pole. The weather was perfect for playing like that.
アカシアの木と蜜八
温泉の何でも屋、村越さん、がひとつな丸太を板に切ってくれるということで、私が彼の千曲川の周辺の仕事場にお邪魔しに行きました。そうすると、面白い網の帽子をかぶっている人がいた。川辺のアカシアの木の皆が咲いているのでその関係でミツバチ屋さんたちが来ていました。これできっと美味しい蜂蜜が出来るでしょう。
Our onsen's handyman, Murakoshi-san, kindly offered to cut a log into planks for me. I drove over to his workplace along the Chikuma River as usual, but as I approached I saw some people with net masks. My first thought was X-Files, but then I realized they were beekeepers and were here because the acacia trees were in bloom. Apparently acacia flowers make for delicious honey.

村越さん板切り
Geisha brochure draft
ミシュランの赤い本（東京のレストランの紹介）がえらい話題になりました。今度、その緑（旅行）版が更新されるのでその担当者が長野に来る予定になっています。私の先輩が１０分間のアポを取れたので私がプレゼンする事になっています。戸倉上山田温泉の芸者で勝負するのでその資料を作りました。上手くいくといいね。この温泉の良さはこの機会で海外の方に是非紹介したいです。
A couple of months ago, The Michelin Guide to Tokyo's restaurants came out, causing quite a stir. Now the Travel Guide to Japan is being rewritten and the editors are coming through Nagano in a couple of weeks. Our onsen town got a 10 minute appointment with them, and I will be making the presentation. We will focus on our onsen's geisha with this brochure that I made. This would be a great opportunity to spread the word about our onsen to overseas guests!
Yummy bread
先月にこの可愛いパン屋さんが出来ました。お薬師さんの周辺ということでお薬師パン屋です。今日は天気が良かったので若女将と若若女将と散歩して、美味しいパンを買って、西公園でピクニックをしました。戸倉上山田温泉に楽しいひと時を過ごしました。
Last month a new bakery opened up in our onsen town, Togura-Kamiyamada. It's near the Yakushi (Buddha of Healing) temple, and so is called Yakushi Bakery. My wife and daughter and I went for a stroll, bought some yummy bread, and had a picnic at Nish (West) Park. We had a pleasant afternoon in town.
