夕べは金沢からの遠藤さん達と新潟からの管野さん達と姨捨夜景・伝説ツアーに行ってきました。そしたら、ちょうど地元の長野放送TVの撮影に当りました。１１月９日の夕方ニュースの特集になるようです。良かったら、是非ご覧になってください。
Last night I escorted the Endo's from Kanazawa and the Kanno's from Niigata on a tour to Obasute to see the night view. We ended up getting taped by a local tv station and will be on tomorrow night's 6pm news on NBS!

Tallest (?) Tengu in Japan
Armida and friend visited from Guadalajara. I took them to sushi last night. We traded sushi stories from America and Mexico with Sushi-Hei, our local sushi chef. In the States, California Roll is king, and salmon is a popular ingredient. In Japan, no Cali Rolls, and salmon is considered 'cheap'. Armida said in Mexico, the rolls often contain meat (!) and are fried. Sushi-Hei thought that meant the rolls contained fried meat, but Armida said they fry the whole rolls! Culture shock, sushi-style!
メキシコからのお二人とアメ人の私と地元の寿司屋さん、鮨平、が寿司国際交流しました。米国ではカリフォルニア巻きが一番でサーモンも人気です。日本はカリ巻きがなく、サーモンがあまり上品ではない。メキシコは巻き寿司にお肉が入っていて、そして揚げちゃう。｢中身がエビフライとか｣と聞いたら、｢いいえ、巻きはそのままで粉を付けて、揚げるんだ｣言われました。皆がお互いにビックリしました。
今日は仲良しの集まりで、上田市の真田地区でピックニック。近所のパン屋さんの美味しい作品と、食べれる花、山の綺麗な空気と…世界のあちらこちらからのいい友達：オーストリア、米国東海岸、米国西海岸、そして皆の奥さんたちとちびっ子たち。
Picnic with friends in Sanada (Ueda City). Fantastic bread from the neighborhood bakery, interesting edible flowers, crisp clean air in the rustic countryside, and great friends -- Austrian, US East Coast, US West Coast, and our various spouses and little ones.
文化祭のついでに上山田お神楽保存会(私がメンバー)が寄ってくれました。せっかくですから、新しく出来た露天風呂のお祓いしていただきました。
Today is 'Bunka (Culture) Day' in Japan, and the Lion Dance troup (of which I'm a member) performed this morning. They stopped by our inn afterwords, and I had them bless our newly-made outdoor bath.

恐竜と紅葉、信州は良いですね！我が長男と友人、長野市の茶臼山恐竜公園にて。

亀清旅館の露天風呂の庭が出来上がりました！ガーデナーの岡田さん達のお陰でこの自然の中でお風呂を浴びれます。人が作った様ではなくて、前から自然にあったの様です。木の枝がざわざわゆれる。温泉のお湯がちょろちょろ流れる。最適な露天風呂や！
問題はまだ２点が残っている：木を植えても周りから見られる感じがするから塀を伸ばす事と、保健所とお湯の扱いの話し合い。
Thanks to our gardener, Okada-san, the natural setting for our outdoor bath is now complete! The branches rustling in the wind combined with the gurgling of the onsen water make for a perfect outdoor bath.
2 problems remain: Even with the trees, privacy is still an issue so I have to extend the fence; and we have to work out a way to make the government's Hokenjo happy with how we use the mineral water.

我が子供の毎年楽しみにしているイベントは今日、さらしなの里古代体験パークで行われました。猪料理や縄文時代の色々な事を体験出来ます。長男が魚釣り、次男が塩焼き魚喰いを楽しめました。
Today was one of those events that our kids look forward to all year: The Jomon Era Festival at Sarashina-no-sato Ancient Experience Park. You get to dress up as the Jomon's did, practice starting fires by sticks, eat wild boar meat, and lots of other fun stuff. Our oldest son got a kick out fishing with a bamboo rod, and our middle guy pigged out on a fish salted and cooked on a skewer over an open fire.

古いと新しいライトOld and new signs
この間、生放送のテレビにも馬鹿にされました(サブロクモンキース様、有難うございました！）、亀清旅館の玄関の非常口の照明器具が非常に大きかったです。今日はこの小さいのに取り替えました。（写真の移りが非常に悪くて、すみません。）改善だ！
As was recently commented on live TV, Kamesei's Emergency Exit sign used to be ridiculously huge. Today I installed a modern sign -- so much nicer!

今年のプロジェクト：露天風呂を手作業で。今日は櫓のベースを完成して、ベンチを固定した。植木屋さんと再確認したら、来週のおへそに植え付けの予定。それからお客様にご案内できる。(既に入っている方も沢山いますけど。。。)
This year's big project: making an outdoor bath by hand. Today I finished the base of the 'yagura' and placed the bench. I also confirmed with our gardener: we're on for planting the trees in the middle of next week. After that we'll be able to invite guests to use the bath! (Of course, some people have already started using it!)
