The garden ready for planting
亀清旅館の新しい貸切家族風呂の庭はすこしずつ形になってきています。庭師の岡田さんは大きい石や土を準備して頂いて、これからは植栽の植えつき。
家族風呂はもう入れる状態ですが、庭がないと風情がね。庭の完成は楽しみだ。
Kamesei Ryokan's private family bath's garden is slowly coming into shape. Our gardener, Okada-san, has placed the large rocks and prepared the soil. In a couple of days, he will plant the trees and flowers.
The bath itself is all ready, but it wouldn't be enjoyable to use without the garden around it. I am really looking forward to the garden's completion.
Which side is the 'face'?
亀清旅館の新しい貸切家族風呂の庭の石設置の写真です。ご近所の方の庭作りから余っていた石を頂きました。と言いながら、運搬は大変でした。クレーンは2台を手配しまして、やっと運ばれました。庭師の岡田さん、ご苦労様でした。
今度の木曜日当たりで木の植えつきの予定です。庭が完成したらお客様に入って頂けます。楽しみにしています!
Pictures from setting the rocks for Kamesei Ryokan's new private family bath. One of our neighbors has a stack of rocks left over from when they built their garden. He gave some to us for free. Of course, moving them entailed a lot of cost. But our gardener, Okada-san, was thrilled with the quality of the rocks.
Leave it to a gardener to think huge rocks are 'cool'.
Anyways, the trees and smaller plants will be planted this coming Thursday. Then our new bath will be ready for guests to try it out! I can't wait.

Ｇｉｎｋｇｏ ｔｒｅｅ ｉｎ ｆｕｌｌ ｃｏｌｏｒｓ
この秋の天気は寒くなったり温かくなったりのせいか、今年の紅葉はあまりぱっとしない。しかし、お客様の送迎のついでに上山田温泉の裏にある城山を車で登りました。そうすると、桜の赤からイチョウ真っ黄色まで、紅葉らしい葉っぱでした。
これが秋だ!と思いました。葉っぱは色変えずに落ちるのが一番面白くない秋の終わり方。城山のこの色を見れて、納得しました。秋が終わり、冬の初めはどうぞ。
This fall, perhaps due to the the wild temperature swings, the leaves haven't been showing their normal brilliant autumn colors. But I took some guests up to Joe Mountain, the hill behind our onsen town of Togura-Kamiyamada, and was treated to beautiful colors -- from the red of the cherry trees to the bright yellow of the ginkgo tree.
Now this is Autumn! It's dissappointing when fall ends with the leaves falling without changing color. After seeing today's autumn leaves at Joe Mountain, I feel fulfilled. Now I'm ready for fall to end and winter to come.

3日に上山田神楽保存会が来てくれて、亀清旅館の新しい貸切家族風呂の新築祝いしてくれました。
8月からずっと作り続いていた露天風呂の為に獅子舞して頂いて、嬉しかったです。一つな大きい段落を越えて、ほっとしました。
これで庭に仕上がりしてからお客様にどんどんと入って頂けますので楽しみです。
On the 3rd, the Kamiyamada Kagura Preservation Group came and did a lion dance to dedicate Kamesei Ryokan's new private family bath.
I have been working hard since August on the bath, so to have it dedicated like this means so much to me.
As soon as the garden is finished, we will be able to let our guests use the new bath!

文化の日という事で、上山田では文化祭が開催されます。例年通り、私達上山田神楽保存会の皆が獅子舞を文化会館の舞台で発表しました。地元の他の踊りなどのグループも発表しました。その中で、冠着太鼓の演奏も。子供達と一緒に見たけど、太鼓を生で聞くとやはり格好良い。4歳の美咲ちゃんが「体の中に入っちゃう」と感動しました。
文化会館の外で農協や商工会青年部などで物販があった。炭焼き立て秋刀魚が最高に美味しかった。
お神楽もそうですけど、他のグループもそうでしょう: 普段の活動も良いけどこうやって年に一度舞台で発表するのはうれしいよね。
With November 3rd being Culture Day and a national holiday in Japan, Kamiyamada holds a Culture Festival every year in the Culture Center. The Kagura shi-shi lion dance troupe I belong to participates every year. Along with other local groups, we perform on the main stage in the Center. This year, our local taiko group also performed. Our kids and I watched from the audience. Taiko is so cool to watch live. Little 4-year old Misaki said it felt like the taiko were playing inside her.
Outside the Center, local farm groups and the Chamber of Commerce Junior Association set up booths and were selling different food and goods. The charcoal-grilled 'sanma' (saury) was superb!
I don't know how it is for the other groups, but for us in the lion dance troupe, it's always exciting to perform on the big stage like this every year for the Culture Fest.

戸倉上山田温泉の忘新年会キャンペーン
戸倉上山田温泉はこの冬に忘新年会のキャンペーンを実施します。亀清旅館を込めて、全ての宿がお越しになるお客様に抽選権を提供します。宿泊券から東北のお酒、東北の旅行プレゼントまで当たる事が出来ます。
東北応援の事も込めて、地元の皆様が会社やグループのメンバーと、今年こそ一年の御苦労を記念して、温泉で集まって頂きたいです。皆様の貴重な集まりを応援しています!

このキャンペーンの宣伝の為に、旅館の皆さんがいくつかの班に分けて、キャラバンしました。2日に亀清の若女将が他の宿の方と佐久市・小諸市方面を回りました。戸倉上山田の皆が一生懸命!
Kamesei's Family Bath pre-pre-open
亀清旅館の貸切家族風呂は10月末までに完成のうわさ（予定?）でした。何とか、入れる状態にはなりました。お湯をテストで入れてみました。温度調整はまだ途中ですが、気持ち良さそうです。
ただ、露天風呂の周りの庭はあと2週間ぐらいかかります。保健所の許可もこれから申し込みます。
という事で、プレ・プレオープンは目標通り（？）無事にできました。
Rumor had it that Kamesei's private family bath would be finished by the end of October. Or at least that's the date I've been targetting since I started building the bath at the beginning of August.
So, did we meet the target? Well, I went ahead and tested out the bath with onsen water, and everything looks okay. However, the garden is going to take a couple more weeks.
For now, I'm calling it the pre-pre-open!

亀清旅館の貸切家族風呂の工事の一部として、お風呂への通路を作っています。砕石所で購入した飛び石を設置しています。これでお湯をテスト的に入れて、プレオープンに向かって必死です。
Work on Kamesei Ryokan's private family bath is progressing. Right now I am working on the stone path approach to the bath. Then I'll do a test-fill of the bath with onsen water for a Pre-Open.
