歴史と景色、荒砥城
戸倉上山田温泉の上に荒砥城と言う山城があります。今日、宿泊お客様を連れてきました。風林火山のころの山城の形です。実は、NHKがその大河ドラマの撮影の為に使いました。亀清から歩いて行ける距離（まあ、結構登りますけど）なので是非一度。。。
Above our town is this mountain castle, Arato-jyo. It has been built to the way it was in the time of the Kawanakajima battles. In fact, NHK used it as a setting for their year-long drama, 'Fuurinkazan'. It's within walking distance of Kamesei (admittedly, quite a climb), and is definitely worth seeing.

信州の６月と言えば、たけのこ取りに決まっています。今日はプロの池ちゃんに連れて頂いて、初体験致しました。そして、亀清に戻って、うちの板前がその取立てのたけのこを焼いて、夕食の時にお客さんに出しました。私がこの為に長野に引越しした。。。

June in Nagano means bamboo shoots, and today I went to the mountains to pick them with Ike-chan. Me being a first-timer, and Ike-chan being a pro, he picked twice as much as I did. But it was a great experience, and when I got back to Kamesei our chef prepared the freshly-picked shoots for our guests' dinners. Another reminder of why I decided to move to Nagano!

浅草の芸子さん
戸倉上山田温泉で今日、芸者サミットが行いました。当温泉と北信の渋・湯田中温泉と隣の群馬県の伊香保温泉と東京の浅草の４箇所から芸者が集まりました。演奏もあり、パネルディスカッションも、そして最後は逆宴会がありました。我々旅館青年部が芸者さんの為にお酌しました。当たり前のことですが、芸子さん達の芸に感動しました。
Our town hosted a 'Geisha Summit' with groups from 4 different areas including Tokyo Asakusa participating. A big achievement for our little town!
bbq American-style
うちの親がシアトルから遊びに来てくれました。近状の友達とアメリカ風なバーベキューをしました。こういう国際交流が最高ですね。
Grandma and Grandpa came from Seattle to visit, and we held an American-style barbeque with the neighbors. This is 'international culture exchange' at its finest!

新緑の戸隠の奥社。こんなに青い空も久しぶりでした。信州の自然はやはり最高!

Nearby Climbing Wall
戸倉上山田温泉にこの格好良いクライミングウォールが出来ました！と言っても、写真に写っている二人が小さい小学生（うちの息子との友人）なのでウォールが大きく見えるだけかもしれません。でも体験したい方は問い合わせをこちらへどうぞ。We have a new climbing wall in our town! Actually, the two pictured climbers are little 1st-graders so the wall just looks big in this picture. But if your interested in giving it a climb, feel free to contact us.
伝説の場所
駅への送迎の途中でお客様に温泉街の側の笄渡しを案内致しました。風林火山にも関連する伝説を話しました。温泉街の近くにこんな歴史のある場所があって、嬉しいです。案内してもらいたかったら、是非声をかけて下さい
On the way to the train station, I took some guests to 'Kougai-watashi', a spot along the Chikuma River rich in local legends. I'd be happy to take you there, too, and share the history of our area.
3 Yanks and a Canadian - the organizers
今年は温泉街の側の川沿いの公園でイースター（復活祭）の祭りがまた行われました。私が待ちの国際交流協会と温泉旅館組合の協力を得て、地元の子供達は約１２０人が集まって、異文化のイベントを楽しめました。
This morning we held an Easter Egg Hunt at the park down at the river in front of the town. I enjoyed sharing some of my Western culture with the local kids.
Ridin' the Bronto
晴れた天気を生かして、お客さんとうちの子供を連れて近くの恐竜公園に行ってきました。遊んでから近辺のラーメン屋さんで「恐竜ラーメン」も。６人で１つをぎりぎり食べれました。
Taking advantage of the nice weather, we took our kids and some guests to the nearby 'Dinosaur Park'. After playing with the life-sized dinos, it took 6 of us to finish off a bowl of 'Dinosaur Ramen' at a local ramen shop.
