今朝のお客さんにこの黄色い花の名前を聞かれました。庭師の岡田さんと確認したら: 黄花碇草。以前にも調べましたので思い出しました。この可愛いらしい花はうぶに見えるけど、アジアでは媚薬として使われているらしい。
亀清旅館は中庭や露天風呂の雑木林を始め、渡り廊下の坪庭や離れ風の客室についている小庭、所々に庭があります。特に庭師の岡田さんが作ってくれた庭はデザイン性があって、珍しい植物が沢山あります。ちょうど今の楽しみは媚薬の黄花碇草♪
One of our guests this morning stopped me to ask for the name of a plant that was blooming in one of our tsubo-niwa pocket gardens. It's Epimedium koreanum, aka Korean Epimedium, otherwise known as 'Horny Goat Weed'.
The delicate yellow flower looks so innocent, but in Asia it is actually considered an aphrodisiac. Our gardener Okada-san has incorporated many rare and unusual plants into the gardens he has designed for us, and right now one of the ones in bloom is this interesting plant.
