FM Nagano's reporter Ikeda-san came to Kamesei Ryokan for their weekly broadcast about Chikuma City. Ikeda-san made a live report from -- Kamesei's lobby!

While basking in the warmth from our wood-burning stove, Ikeda-san interviewed me about Kamesei Ryokan's End-of-the-Year party plans as well as what Togura-Kamiyamada as a whole is doing for the season.

戸倉上山田温泉及び亀清旅館の紹介が載っているＮＨＫ「千曲川紀行」の番組は再放送されるそうです。今回は【NHK総合】＜長野県域＞１１月２４日（土）前１０：５５～１１：５４です。また田中要次さんを見れて、嬉しいです。

最近は戸倉上山田で色んな取材が来ています。最近の放送情報：

長野県の皆様はこういう番組を見て、忘年会や新年会を戸倉上山田で楽しめば良いですね。

NHK's TV show, "Chikuma River Travels" will be re-broadcast, this time not on their cable channel but on their main channel. It will only be shown in the Nagano region, but this will be huge exposure for Togura-Kamiyamada and our inn, Kamesei Ryokan that was featured in the show. The program will air on Saturday 24-Nov from 10:55-11:54am.

Lately, our onsen town, Togura-Kamiyamada has been the subject of a lot of TV shows. Here is a rundown on some of the recent programs:

*Ogiwarakan and Year-End banquets, SBC, aired last week.

*Togura Kamiyamada Onsen and Year-End banquets, 2 stations, 23-Nov evening.

*Seifuen and Year-End banquets, ABN, 01-Dec, morning.

*Taxi 100th Anniversary, Shinshu TV, 31-Dec (our local Hatayama Hire to be featured)

Hopefully all of this TV exposure will drum up support here in Nagano for everyone to hold their year-end and New Year banquets here.

ＮＨＫの「発見！体験！戦国ロマン　千曲紀行」と言う番組が11月1日の夜9時からＢＳプレミアムで放送される予定です。俳優の田中要次さんが千曲川の源流からずっと旅をしした中で、千曲川沿いの唯一の温泉地、戸倉上山田温泉に泊まって、川沿いのサイクリング道路で走りました。従って、亀清旅館とこの若旦那が入っている千曲サイクリングクラブも出るそうです。

Japan's national broadcaster will air a show about travelling along the Chikuma River on November 1st from 9pm on the BS Premium channel. Pictured is a poster for the show. Kamesei Ryokan and the Chikuma Cycling Club (of which I'm a member) will be featured. Check it out!

NHKのＢＳプレミアムの取材で、ドラマ俳優の田中要次さんが千曲川を源流から旅すると番組の撮影が来ました。千曲川沿いの唯一の温泉地として、我が戸倉上山田温泉にも取材に来ました。そして、この辺の千曲川と言うと、サイクリング道路！私が当温泉のレンタサイクルを担当しているという事で、亀清旅館の取材もして頂けました。

従って、田中さんとの良い出会いとなりました。主の撮影は千曲川の景色を自転車で楽しむとの事でした。千曲サイクリングクラブのメンバー4人（私も入れて）が田中さんとこの戸倉上山田温泉から川中島の古戦場まで走りました。詳しくは番組をどうぞ、ご覧になって下さい。放送日はまだ決まっていないけど、11月の頭の予定だそうです。

田中さんは『世界の村で発見! こんなところに日本人7』の番組取材でパタゴニアから帰ってきたばかりです。信州の温泉宿にこの青い目の若旦那を見て、「こんなところにアメリカ人か？」と笑っていました。

今回の取材で私が特に嬉しかったのは、こうやって変わった外国人の事ではなくて、レンタサイクルの活動でつながりました。努力をすれば、良い事がある！

National TV broadcaster NHK has been in town shooting footage for a program about the Chikuma River. TV drama actor Yohji Tanaka is travelling down the river starting all the way from the source. The production choose to stop at our onsen-town, Togura-Kamiyamada, as it is the only onsen resort area located on the Chikuma River. And since there is a bicycle trail along the river through this area, they decided to feature cycling. That brought them to me, the organizer of rental cycles here at Togura-Kamiyamada.

It was great to meet Tanaka-san. And it was exciting to get to ride with him and the members of the Chikuma Cycling Club, as we rode bikes from the onsen to Kawanakajima, approximately 20km. I won't spoil the surprises, so to see more, wait for the TV show. It is scheduled to air in the beginning of November on NHK's Premium cable channel.

Tanaka-san had just gotten back from filming a show in Patagonia about a Japanese person living way out in the countryside there. He joked when he met me about an American living way out in the Japanese countryside!

One thing I was happy about this filming was it was due to my activities in promoting bicycling in the area, not because of my unique status of being a foreigner living in Japan. Some of my hard work is starting to pay off!

千曲サイクリングクラブChikuma Cycling Club

上山田神楽保存会（私が獅子笛でメンバーです）が千曲市観光協会との連携で「上山田神楽観賞とチョコと体験」と言うプログラムを提供しております。宴会とかお祝いの集まりで、私ども上山田神楽保存会が獅子舞で参る事です。演奏の一部はお祓い；獅子がお客様一人一人の頭にお祓いします。ですから、皆様は受け身で見るだけではなく、心に響く部分があって、仲間作りにつながる訳です。尚且つ、お客様が笛や太鼓、獅子の頭を実際にやってみる事も出来る。

会社の忘年会、保育園の夏祭り、結婚のお祝い、老人ホームのバスディーパーティーなど、様々な場面に呼ばれています。

ＦＭ長野の毎週木曜日の「千曲市浪漫紀行」の番組はそのお神楽体験の取材をしてくれました。9月20日の番組で放送されました。リポーターの池田さんとディレクターの藤原さんが私どもお神楽の練習に来て、獅子舞の様子を見て、インタビューしてくれました。録音した分は当日の番組に出たし、体験の申込窓口として私がスタジオに呼ばれて、生の放送でお神楽体験の説明をしたり、笛を吹いたりしました。

ＦＭ長野の番組をお聞きになりましたでしょうか？ちょっとでも上山田お神楽の認識度が上がったでしょう。

そして、小さい事ですが、今回の取材は私が「青い目の若旦那」と珍しい事のではなくて、上山田お神楽体験を積極的に市観光協会に取り組んでもらって、連絡先として活躍しているからです。色んな人に「テレビで見たよ」と言われますが、どうやって返事すればよいかいつも困ります。最近は「これからですよ、これから」と答えています。戸倉上山田や長野県を盛り上がる様にさまざまの活動をやっている中、メディアにどんどんと取り組んで頂いています。

先月に戸倉上山田旅館組合の皆様と宣伝キャラバンで調教へ行った時に業界メディアの旅行新聞社にも顔を出しました。同新聞の8月11・21日号に大きな記事を載せて頂きました。戸倉上山田温泉の新しい「湯巡り」企画そして一緒に回った小石の湯の西澤社長の語りべ企画の宣伝になっています。

ちょっと嬉しい事で、まっぷる「温泉＆宿」関東・信州・新潟版に我が亀清旅館がデビューしました。温泉地240湯、温泉宿泊施設1420軒の詳しいカタログ。亀清旅館は今回で紹介して頂いたのは、恐らく貸切露天風呂が出来たのお蔭だと思います。

貸し切り露天「しなの風呂」を作る価値がありましたよね。まっぷるさんにも評価されました事。

まっぷるさんはこのカタログに載せて頂いたのは嬉しいと思いながら、読者は1420軒の中で、亀清著感を見つけて頂けるかどうかは不安です。まあ、でも、載らないより…

まっぷる社に感謝、感謝！

We here at Kamesei are excited -- we got listed in the Mapple "Onsen & Inn" guide's Tokyo & vicinity version. The guide is a catalog of 240 onsen areas and 1,420 inns and hotels.

Kamesei has never had the honor of being listed before. I think it is due to our adding a family bath that we got picked for the 2013 edition. Kamesei Ryokan has finally joined the Mapple ranks!

My excitement is modified, however, with the realization that there are 1,419 other onsen inns also listed in the guide. How are readers ever going to find us? But at least now we are officially in the guide! Thank you, Mapple!

まっぷる温泉＆宿Mapple Onsen & Inn

長野の物権雑誌「住マイル」は定期的に去年に出来たプロバスケ「信州ブレィブウォリアーズ」についての紹介がある。

今回はチームのサポーター達についての記事があった。ウォリアーズの大ファンの杏生産者の杏宝園の高松さんと臼井さん、そしてその杏を扱っている、尚且つウォリアーズの大ファンの私ども亀清旅館が紹介されました。

杏と温泉とバスケ、そして物権の雑誌。これは良い地域連携！

Nagano's real estate and apartment rental guide "Sumairu" magazine regularly features articles about our new pro basketball team, the Shinshu Brave Warriors.

The latest issue focuses on the supporters. In particular, Takamatsu-san and Usui-san of apricot orchard Kyohouen. Besides growing delicious apricots and producing all kinds of new products, he two ladies also happen to be huge hoops fans. In addition to those two, the article also mentioned a local innkeeper who uses Kyohouen's products and who also happens to be a huge Warriors fan.

Which is how I happen to have been featured in an apartment rental magazine's pro hoops team article with a couple of apricot growers!

住マイル Sumairu

先月に松本で開催した長野県旅館組合インバウンド商談会が７月２１日号の旬刊旅行新聞に取り上がりました。記者の飯塚さんの記事内容は素晴らしいし、写真２枚も付くてくれました。

今回の企画ではインバウンド送客１５社を招いて、長野県のホテル・旅館経営者・予約担当約７０人が集まりました。なかなか珍しい企画だった（全国では事例がないぐらい）のでその意味で旅行新聞が来てくれて、嬉しかった。

商談会の前に私の「欧米人の求めているおもてなし」の講演がありました。飯塚さんは講演内容もきちんと書いてくれました。良くお聞きになっていました！

こうやって長野県の旅館活動が広めて、嬉しいです。

Last months Inbound seminar and trade conference that I put on in Matsumoto last month got featured in this week's edition of the Ryoko Shimbun trade newspaper. The Nagano Ryokan Association's Inbound Committee sponsored the event where we invited 15 organizations that work to send foreigners to Japan. Approximately 70 ryokan and hotel owners / reservation staff members attended and met with the various organizations to get an explanation of their operations. We also allowed time for one-on-one consultation where some inns entered into new contracts right then and there.

The reporter for the Ryoko Shimbun aptly described the conference and added a couple of color pictures to the article, too. Before the conference there was a keynote speech by, Yours Truly, on what Westerners expect when they come to Japan. Iizuka-san covered the main points of that speech in her article, too.

I am glad Nagano's ryokan association efforts on inbound are getting this publicity!

日本温泉協会の一流「温泉」月刊の7月1日号のテーマは「温泉はインバウンドの柱」です。外国人の温泉旅館の若旦那として頼まれて、私が記事を提供しました：

戸倉上山田温泉・亀清旅館の魅力、苦労話、露天風呂造り、インバウンドの活動、そしてお客様に寛げる場面の提供の幸せ。

私も日本の温泉が外国人観光客を呼ぶ柱だと思っています。温泉協会がこのテーマを特集にして、感謝しております。
その中で、私に記事を頼んで頂いて、嬉しかったです。

The Japan Spa Association's prestigious monthly journal "Onsen" features onsens as a pillar of "Inbound" (attracting tourists from overseas) in their July 1st, 2012 edition. Being a foreigner running an onsen ryokan, I was asked to write an article for the journal. Hence,

"The Perfect Job: A Blue-Eyed Onsen 'Baka' (Fool)"

The charm of our onsen town Togura-Kamiyamada and our inn, Kamesei Ryokan, my trials and tribulations, building the outdoor baths, my "inbound" activities, and my happiness from providing our guests a place to relax.

I, too, believe Japan's onsens are an important tool for attracting travellers from overseas. I am grateful the national onsen association dedicated an issue of their journal to the topic of foreigners. And I am thankful they asked me to submit an article.
