新年会シーズンが続いています。今回に泊まっていただいたグループは面白いメンバーでした。皆、お神輿かつぎ仲間でした。私も何度もおみこしをかついだ事がありますが身長が合わないから難しくて。。。皆様、頑張って！それか、「わっしょい！」と言った方が良い？
These guys are part of a group that go from town to town, festival to festival, to help out carrying the omikoshi portable shrines. I've participated in such activities in the past for our local festival, but with my height, it makes it difficult. Anyways, good luck, guys!

2月の頭にそれぞれの村が道祖神を綺麗に作り直して、子供達がワラの馬(初うま）を車に乗せて遊んで、手作りの餅を食べたりと言う習慣が昔からありました。亀清の親戚がこの初うまを作ってくれて、ロビーに飾ってあります。長野伝統を感じれます！
There is a tradition here in Nagano for local villages to re-make their 'Dosojin' road-side gods at the beginning of February every year. Kids gather and eat home-made mochi sticky rice and play with horse pull-toys made out of straw. Our uncle made these horses for us, and we have them on display in our lobby -- a little connection with the area's traditions.

平日の朝、地元の上山田保育園のバスが亀清の前に泊まります。うちの次男と近状の子供が乗ります。このように、亀清は家族経営で生活しながらやっております。
Every weekday morning, the schoolbus from Kamiyamada Preschool stops in front of Kamesei to pick up our son and the neighbor-girl. As you can see, we are a family-run inn and manage the inn while living our normal lives. Just regular folks!

今年の1月4日に宿泊させて頂いた、狩野（kanou）です。
とても素晴らしい「お持てなし」をありがとうございまし
た。
初めての上山田温泉で「亀清」さんにお世話になり、
とても幸運です。素晴らしい温泉と料理で満足しました。
特に旦那さんの「明るさ」と「smart」さは素晴らしかったで
す。
沢山のお話と、生まれて初めて聞いた「ホラ貝」が良かった
です。
綺麗な女将様にも宜しくお伝え下さい。
昔からの日本の伝統をしっかり守り、大切にしていく気持ち
が伝わり、自分たちも出来ることから文化の再認識と伝承を
して行かなくてはならないと考えさせられました。
また、こんなに経済や文化等で依存しているアメリカについ
ても、私たちは何も知らないと改めて感じました。
今度はアメリカの文化や考え方なども教えて頂けるとうれし
いです。
また、お世話になりたいと考えています。

皆様のお陰でお正月は亀清旅館で忙しかった。そのストレス発散を込めて、皆で新年会をやってきました。その後の２次会がミスターレディーバーで｢訳分からない｣楽しみしました。
Thanks to everyone's support, New Years was lively here at Kamesei Ryokan. To burn off some of the stress, all of here at the inn went out for a New Year dinner, followed by an eventful time at a transvestite bar. Why trannies are popular here in Japan is beyond me, but there he (she?) was, and old enough to be my father. Unfortunately no pic's of him (her?).

亀清の手作りの露天風呂の写真は色々と載せさせておりますが、今回は上からの見た露天風呂の写真です。元々はプールだったって分からないぐらいに庭が綺麗に出来ています。今日、ガーデナーの岡田さんが来てくれて、植えた木をチェックしてくれました。皆が元気で冬をすごしているようです。今年の冬がまた暖かい為に、それぞれの花が早く咲く蚊も知れないので一番先に出るヒュウガミズキの黄色い花が楽しみです。
I've posted several pic's of our new outdoor bath (can you tell I'm proud of this little project?), and this time it's a bird's eye view of the hand-made bath. Our gardener, Okada-san, came today to check on the plantings, and gave his (green) thumbs up. With the unseasonably warm winter so far, the flowers may apparently bloom early. First to come should be the yellow blossoms of the 'hyuuga' dogwood.

去年は雪で終わって、今年は雪で始めた。亀清旅館の玄関前の松が雪をかぶって、とっても「和」の雰囲気が出ました。

Last year went out with snow, this year came in with snow. The branches of the pine tree at the entrance of Kamesei Ryokan bears the snow so beautifully.

天気予報によると、雪が来るそうです。したがって、スタッドレスに交換。

The weather man calls for snow, so time to change to snow tires.

今年の最後の日は夕方、雪になりました。そのお陰で、綺麗な雪景色になりました。

Today, the last day of the year, we had a light snow fall in the evening, blanketing everything with a beautiful touch of white.
