Fathers Day on top of Mt. Kamuriki With the Nature Preservation Society

This American’s Omotenashi

How was your Fathers Day?
Here in Togura Kamiyamada Onsen, the ryokan junior association teamed up with the Midori wo Mamoru Kai (Nature Preservation Society) to climb 1252-meter Kamuriki Mountain.
Father-and-Kids Hiking -- my idea of a perfect Fathers Day!

During my 2 year term as leader of the ryokan junior association, I have been holding a monthly session of "Onsen Juke", a hybrid study session x community outreach. For this session, we combined a climb of Kamuriki Mountain with interacting with the Midori people, all for Fathers Day.

Last year when I made the Chikuma City Hiking Map, I consulted on courses with the Midori leader Sugeya-san. I was grateful for her assistance, and had wanted to create this opportunity for her organization and us ryokan guys to interact.

The Midori group came into existance at the end of the Showa Era, to organize a resistance to gravel companies' using the nearby mountains for their operation. After successfully stopping the gravel guys from turning the area hillsides into eyesores, the group switched to appreciating those same hills and mountains. They researched the ancient walking paths that are in danger of disappearing in this age of automobiles. The group regularly walks the old trails and also is working hard to pass on their love of the mountains with the next generation through kid-participation walks of Hitoe Mtn. Upcoming activities are as below.
