我が長男に五輪の聖火がギリシャから北京までリレーすることを説明したら、「見たい！」と言い出しました。今朝は布団上げが終わったら二人で駅まで飛んで（ぎりぎり間に合って）長野駅に行きました。そしたら、聖火が通ったばかりって聞いて、がっかり。でも、ネバーギブアップで今度タクシーに乗って追いかけました。最初に行った所も「もうと通っちゃったよ」と。タクシーに乗りなおして、違う所に。今度は１５分ぐらい待てば通ると分かって、みなと道沿いで並んでいて、どきどきで待っていました。そしたら、リレーがやっと近付いたらきた途端で旗を振っている人々が邪魔で入って、結局は聖火が見えたような、見えなかったような、期待はずれでした。
When I explained to our son Andy how the Olympic flame travels from Athens to Beijing, he said he wanted to go see it during its Nagano stop. So this morning, after flipping the guests' futons, we sped to the station and (barely) hopped a train to Nagano Station. There, we found out we barely missed the relay. Undaunted, we grabbed a taxi and pursued the relay to another spot, only to find out we barely missed it there, too. Back to the taxi, and on to another spot where we would have to wait 15 minutes. So we grabbed a street-side spot and waited in anticipation. The torch runner came closer, and as he approached, all of a sudden a bunch of flag-waivers ran in front of us and in a flash it was over in one big disappointing moment.
