First the tear-off 古い瓦を外して
奥の離れ風の客室の瓦がかなり年数のもので、最近は雨漏りになっています。今日から新しい瓦を付ける作業が始まります。設備投資はもっとセクシーなところから始めたいですが、その前に屋根をしっかりしないとあかんですね。
ちなみに、作業の準備の時に、私が屋根裏を見て、ビックリした事がありました：断熱材がなかった！業者に聞いたら、日本の古い建築は断熱材を使わなかったと言われました。断熱材が「イロハ」の「イ」だと思っていました。早速、断熱材を買ってきて、職人さんについでに取り付けてもらった。
The re-roofing of our two back guest rooms started today. I'd rather use the money for other improvements, but we need a good roof over the guests' heads. When I took a look at the roof and attic, I was surprised to see no insulation. Ceiling insulation is about as basic as you can get back in the States, but apparently older Japanese construction didn't use it. So I ran to the Home Center and bought a bunch of insulation, and had the roofers install it for us.
