開けまして、おめでとうございます！

年が変わると前年を振り替えてみながら新しいのはどんな一年間になるか不安と期待で一杯です。

取り敢えず、２０１３年に亀清旅館にお泊りになった皆様に感謝、感謝!　住所を把握しているお客さんにお礼を込めて、年賀状を送りました。毎年の事ですが、今回は１２００枚以上でした。（年末は年賀状作業で必死でした！）

この写真は今回の年賀状に使いました。２０１３年のまとめです。

Happy New Years, everyone! As the year changes, it is time to take a look back at the year that has passed, and look forward with anticipation at the year to come. First and foremost, we at Kamesei Ryokan would like to thank all of our guests from 2013. For the ones we have addresses for we sent New Years Greeting Cards, over 1200 cards in all. (These past few days I have been crazy-busy preparing all those cards!)

12月20・21日にＪＲ東日本の主催で姨捨駅でジャズの演奏があった。クリスマスに合わせて、リゾートトレイン「リゾートビューふるさと」を使った「ＪＡＺＺナイトビュー
姨捨」。

お客さんの送迎で偶然その準備をみました。まるでクリスマスパーティー状態でした。サンタさんもいました。

ＪＲさんはこれからもこういうジャズナイトを姨捨駅で行えばいいね。

JR East put on a jazz concert at Obasute Station on December 20th and 21st. They ran a special Resort View Furusato train to the station where jazz musicians entertained the guests.

I happened to see the preparations when I went to pick up some guests. It looked like a Christmas party was going on -- even Santa-san was there!

I hope JR continues to offer Jazz Nights at Obasute Station like this in the future!

毎年の冬の楽しみは：

イチゴ狩り!

この冬は12月1日からアグリパークのイチゴ狩りが始まりました。外は温度が低くてもハウスの中が温かくて、
そして甘くて美味しいイチゴは食べ放題♪

我々欧米人にとって、イチゴって夏で畑で狩るものですが、冬のイチゴはまた良いですね！

込み合ったり、無くなったりの事がありますので、予約がお勧めです。詳しくは亀清旅館へどうぞ。

Strawberry Picking Season is here again. Located about 20 minutes from our onsen town Togura Kamiyamada is Agri Park. Picking berries in their greenhouses filled with strawberry plants is a wintertime favorite around here.

Back home in Seattle, strawberry picking is something you do out in a field in the summertime. Here, it's done in greenhouses in the winter. Which is great, 'cuz the warm greenhouses make a great break from the cold outside.

Come and enjoy strawberry picking this winter in Togura-Kamiyamada Onsen. Reservations recommended. Feel free to call us at Kamesei Ryokan to help or for more info.

信州あんずの里アグリパークAgri Park

亀清旅館の客室「千歳」の手前の坪庭。モミジのまぶしい赤に松の濃い緑に空の深い青。

自然のお・も・て・な・し。

Pictured is a scene from the 'tsubo-niwa' pocket garden in front of Kamesei Ryokan's guest room 'Chitose'. The bright red of the momiji (Japanese maple) leaves with the dark green of the matsu (Japanese pine) needles and the deep blue of the autumn sky.

日本の秋は綺麗ですね。

Kamesei Ryokan's guest room 'Matsukaze'. The garden has taken on the color of autumn with the fallen leaves from the Japanese maple covering the ground around the 'andon' lantern.

亀清旅館の手作り「100年風呂」は雑木林の中の露天風呂。この時期はその庭が紅葉で見事になる。特にもみじとイチョウの赤と黄色葉っぱが目立つ。

戸倉上山田温泉の裏の城山に善光寺別院があって、温泉街を見下ろしている。その玄関に４０歳ぐらいのイチョウの大木がある。この時期は紅葉でお寺の雄大の外観に、アプローチの行灯と素晴らしい絵になります。

Perched on top of Joyama, the hill behind our onsen town of Togura-Kamiyamada, is the Zenkoji Branch Temple. At its entrance is a 40+ year old ginkgo tree. This time of the year, its leaves turn a brilliant shade of gold. They beautifully contrast with the grand red facade of the temple and the stone grey of the andon lanterns that line the approach.

クラウン農園の飛田さんです。亀清旅館・戸倉上山田温泉から車で約５分です。今年はふじりんごが１１月中旬からの見込みです。今シーズンのふじは小ぶりですが、味には自信があります！

Pictured is Crown Farm's Tobita-san. His orchard is only 5 minutes by car from Kamesei Ryokan. He informs us that fujis will start mid November. This year's crop has some smaller than normal sizes, but the flavor is as good as ever.

クラウン農園 Crown Farm

連休中で家族でプッチドライブしてきました。長男の中学校陸上チームの応援で長野県駅伝大会に出かけてきた。松本や途中の山道の紅葉は綺麗だった。

やはり、秋は信州での紅葉ドライブですね。

During the 3-day weekend, our family snuck out for a quick drive over to Matsumoto to cheer on our oldest son's track team at the Nagano Prefecture Cross Country Championship. The colors of the fall leaves in Matsumoto and along the mountain roads on the way were stunningly beautiful.

Fall is a great time to go for a drive in Nagano!
