The newest issue of NagaKnow came out today, featuring a timely article by yours truly on the Anzu-no-Sato apricot blossoms.

今日は春らしい日で家族を連れて、杏の里にお出かけしました。（亀清旅館から車で約２５分）莟が咲き始めたばかりの状態。信州の春の暖かい風とあんず味のアイスで幸せ！
Today was a warm spring day, so we took the family to 'Anzu-no-sato' (Apricot Homeland), approx. 25 minutes by car from Kamesei Ryokan. We enjoyed the gentle spring Nagano breeze and the apricot-flavored soft ice cream, but the apricot blossoms themselves were still mostly just buds.

アメリカから日本に来てから、いつも関心するのは日本人の季節感です。特に花の季節感。今は雪が融けた後の敏感の時期です。戸倉駅の裏の山に雪が先週から融け始めて、今はセツブンソウと言う山野際が咲いてきました。最近はここの花が新聞などに載っている成果、見る人がうんと増えたようです。去年に上田さんが亀清に泊まった時に見に行ったので今年はまた来ました。今日は案内して頂いてしまいました。小さくて可愛いらしい魅力的な花です。今年は３月２３日辺りがピークだそうです。本当に短い間しか咲かないので今がチャンス！

今年のあんず祭の期間が決定になりました：4月3日から18日まで、満開が4月10日の見込み。戸倉上山田温泉から車で15分です。日本一の杏の里の可愛いらしい薄いピンクの花を是非！詳しくはwww.chikuma-kanko.jp
The dates for this years Anzu (Apricot) Blossom Festival have been set: April 3rd thru 18th, with full bloom expected April 10th. Easy access via Shuttle Bus departing from Yashiro Station (1 stop from ours, Togura Station).

戸倉駅の上の天狗公園にこの可愛いらしい花が沢山咲いています。節分のころに咲くのでセツブンソウと言います。この写真は今日泊まっているお客様の上田さんが撮って頂きました。
This pretty little flower is in bloom in the park above Togura Station. It usually blooms around Setsubun (the time when Winter changes to Spring), and is called 'setsubunsou'. The dictionary calls it Shibateranthis pinnatifida. I think I like setsubunsou better.
