戸倉駅の上に天狗公園があります。そこでこのでかい天狗があります。町が作った時に、日本一を目指したようですが、出来上がって、図ってみたら。。。日本二でした。
On the way to taking the Tanigawa party to Togura Station, we stopped at Tengu Park behind the station to see the view.

2週間ぶりに黒姫高原に行ってきました。前回は家族連れのコスモス園、今日は商工会関係の講演。前回は曇り、今日はさすがに秋の空で眺めがうんと綺麗でした。黒姫と妙高がどれだけでかいか。。。我々人間がどれだけ小さいか。又長野の大自然が好きになった。
The Nagano Chamber of Commerce held a seminar today at the Kurohime Highlands Dowakan (Fairy Tale Hall). The Autumn sky was a clear blue, highlighting Kurohime and Myoukou's stunning beauty. Once again I was reminded of how beautiful Nagano is.

いま作っている露天風呂の為の流木を千曲川で探しに行きました。そうすると、このミニ砂丘を見つけました。鳥取を思い出しました。
露天風呂は川から拾った石を貼って、枕木に同じ川からの流木を使おうかと思っています。うまくいくかな？
Today I went down to Chikuma River to look for driftwood for the outdoor bath we are making. I came across this mini sand dune. It reminded me of the ocean.
I made the bath out of rocks from this river, so I wanted to use some driftwood, too. Hopefully it will turn out nice.

今日は我が子供を連れて佐久市巡りしました。まずは昆虫天国の佐久パラダでした。ちょっと寂しかったけど、子ども達が森の中でいっぱい走れて、気持ちよかったです。その後、佐久市子ども未来館に行きました。東京はもっと凄い設備の科学センターがあるでしょうが、それぞれのディスプレイが上手に出来ていたし、スタッフがとっても積極的に明るくて、頑張っているなと思いました。
Today we took the kids for a trip to Saku, about 45 minutes towards Tokyo from here. First stop was the Parada beetle and insect world. A little dilapidated, but the kids enjoyed running around the woods. Next was the Saku Children's Science Dome for the Future. There are probably more sophisticated science centers in Tokyo, but the displays here were all done really well, and I was pleasantly surprised by how engaging the staff was.

週末に来てくれた地元のお客様から採れたてのりんごを頂きました。子のりんごが「津軽」と言う種類です。私の一番好きな種類の尼すっぱい「紅玉」もそろそろ出るかな？
Last weekend we had some guests from the local area, and they brought us a treat: some apples they had just picked. That means apple season has officially started. Nagano is the #2 prefecture in Japan for apple production. My favorite variety is the sour 'kougyoku' one, perfect for baking apple pies.

戸倉上山田温泉から車で１０分ぐらいで｢さらしなの里　古代体験パーク｣があります。写真の様に、縄文時代の建物があって、歴史資料館もあるので子供達が縄文の時代の体験が出来ます。石の飾り作り、火の付け方、土器作りなど、楽しいこといっぱい！
'Sarashina Ancient Experience Park' is about 10 minutes from Kamesei by car. Here you can see real-sized replicas of dwellings from the Jomon Era, and try your hand at many different types of pre-historic arts and crafts. Our kids enjoyed making stone pendants today.

今日の空が綺麗で、温泉街の上の山城に行ったら戸隠や北アルプスが見えました。連れて行ったイシトコさん達と二木さん達も喜んでくれたようです。
Today the sky was so clear, you could see Togakushi Mountain and the Northern Alps from Arato-jyo, the mountain castle above our town.

自然で恵まれている信州の隠れ自然を１つ紹介します：聖高原。冬はスキーですけど、夏は色々な遊びがあります。今日はうちの子供を連れて、聖湖の白鳥のボートに乗って、地元の食材を使うレイクサイド館でお昼を食べて、スカイライダーに乗りました。聖博物館も子供に人気です。亀清旅館から冠着山を越えるくねくねの道で約３０分です。
Beat the heat by heading to the highlands. Today we went to Hijiri Highlands and paddled the duck boats, had lunch at the Lake Side Restaurant (features local ingredients) and road the 'Skyrider' tobaggon. The Hijiri Museum is also a big hit with the kids. Hijiri Lake is approx. 30 minutes from Kamesei Ryokan by windy mountain road.

長野は自然で恵まれている国ですが、海が無いとは寂しいです。年に一回ぐらい海を見ないといけないので今日は家族旅行で新潟の海に行きました。上越市の鵜の浜温泉に泊まって、ビーチで思い切り遊びました。実は、どこへ行こうか悩みました。でも、この間の地震の影響で観光客の人数が半分になったって聞いて、応援という意味を含めてそちらへ行く事に決めました。鵜の浜の夕日はうんと綺麗なのでこの写真を記念として撮りました。
Nagano is fortunate to have such beautiful nature, but one thing it is missing is: the ocean! Today our family took our once-a-year trip to the beach. We had a blast playing in the surf. Thanks to the freeway, it's just a one hour trip. Here is a pic of the sun setting into the ocean.

善光寺の建物は今年で３００年になり、従ってこんなにカラフルに飾ってあります。
Zenkoji Temple in Nagano City is sporting these colorful decorations in celebration of the 300th anniversary of the main temple building.
