常連のお客様の依頼で上山田の知識時というお寺に連れて行きました。天気は晴れていましたし、周りの山がうんと綺麗で、そしてこのお寺の門と本館の作り、特に屋根、で歴史の素晴らしさを感じました。今度はちゃんとした写真機を持って、写真を沢山撮りたいと思いました。
A couple of regular customers asked us to take them to Chishikiji Temple. With the blue sky and the snow-covered mountains in the distance, the setting was spectacular. The temple itself, with its thatched roof main building and gate, is impressive with the sense of history and time. Such a photographic little temple!

去年のNHK大河ドラマ「風林火山」で川中島古戦場がスターになりましたので一時的に賑やかでした。今日、我が息子２人を連れて、久しぶりに行きましたが、静かでした。スポットライトが消えたようです。でも、信玄と謙信が相変わらず待っているようです。戦国時代の歴史を味わって、そして温泉に泊まるのはどうですか？（亀清から古戦場まで来るまで約３０分です。）
Last year, NHK (the national broadcaster) did a year-long 'drama' on two samurai lords from the neighboring prefectures, Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin. They had a series of battles at Kawanakajima, which is about 30 minutes from our inn by car. You can come and see some of the Sengoku Jidai history, and then come to our inn for an onsen bath!

千曲川の河川地でニセアカシアの木が定期的に切られて、その薪が「ご自由にどうぞ」で出てくると言う話が良く聞きました。この間、私が初めて取りにいってみました。そうすると、軽トラは30台も並んでいました！信州で薪ストーブをやっている人がこんなに多いか！さっすが長野ですね。
I'd heard that the Acacia trees along the banks of the Chikuma River are cut from time to time to thin them out, and that the wood is made available for free. The other day, I went for the first time to pick some up, and was surprised to see a line of 30 pick-up trucks. There sure are a lot of people in Nagano with wood burning stoves!

ドイツから来たスターさんとの友達は昨日、地獄谷の温泉のお猿を見て、今日は荒砥城(戸倉上山田温泉の上の山城）と松本城を見学する予定です。亀清旅館をベースにして、信州を冒険しています。せっかく天気が良かったから、駅に連れて行った途中で戸倉駅の上の天狗公園によりました。
Yesterday Frederik Stahr and his buddies from Germany went up to see the snow monkeys at Jigokudani, north of here. Today, they're doing castles. Arato, the mountain castle above our town here this morning, and Matsumoto this afternoon. In between, they made Kamesei Ryokan their base for exploring Nagano. Since the weather was so nice, we stopped off at Tengu Park on the way to the station.

この千曲市の版画家、森ばくろ、の家・スタジオ・ギャラリーです。杏で有名な森にあります。「杏の里　版画館」です。今日、私が始めていってみましたが、残念ながら休館でした。森さんは芭蕉の俳句の版画が多いので1つな作品が姨捨駅に展示してあります。私が良くお客さんに連れて行きます。
Our town's native-son woodblock print artist, Mori Bakuro, lives and has his studio and gallery in this classical building. I went to see it for the first time, but unfortunately it was closed. Mori-san patterns a lot of his prints after the haiku works of Bassho, and one of the prints is on display at Obasute Station. 旅館組合青年部の新年会・勉強会で今日、諏訪に行ってきました。一つな勉強がこの新しい足風呂を体験した事です。戸倉上山田温泉に千曲川沿いにこんな足風呂があれば最高だと思いませんか？
The ryokan 'junior' association held a study session at Suwa today. As I'm still very much in the learning stages, I went along. One thing I 'studied' was the new foot bath along the shores of Lake Suwa. Wouldn't it be great if our Togura Kamiyamada Onsen built something like this along the Chikuma River?

オージーのスキー客が沢山来ている事で話題になっている白馬に家族で行って来ました。新聞で読むより、実際行って、実際滑って、オージーからの客さんとも経営者とも実際話しました。研究は勿論でしたが、実は我が長男がスキーしたかった事もありました。そしたら、ショックで、彼が私より上手でした！
The news is full of stories about the Aussie ski 'invasion' of Hakuba. Rather than just reading about it in the newspaper, our family drove there, went skiing there, and talked with both the Australian visitors and the Australian owners. But it wasn't all just research: our oldest son just wanted to go skiing. And did he! I was surprised to find out he's better than me!

駅までのお送りで途中で戸倉上山田温泉の上の城山に寄りました。お客さんに千曲川の眺めを御案内しました。この谷は雪がある時に特に綺麗になります。戸倉上山田温泉が自然で恵まれて、いつも見るけどいつもほっとします。
On the way to taking a guest back to the station this morning, we stopped at a viewpoint overlooking our onsen town Togura Kamiyamada and the snow covered Chikuma River valley. The valley is particularly pretty with snow. We are so fortunate to be surrounded by such beautiful nature.

ヤマザキパン屋さんが戸倉上山田温泉の周辺の｢森杏の里｣の杏を利用したパンを全国的に発売しました。千曲市の味が恋しくなったら、このパンがお勧めです！私も食べてみましたのでなかなか美味しかったです。

National bread maker Yamazaki has put out a new product: bread filled with apricot jam made from apricots from here in Chikuma City. I taste-tested it today -- the apricot flavor is delicious!

冬の姨捨駅の夜景ツアーは寒いですが、その分で空気がさらっとしているので夜景がうんと綺麗です。夕べの夜景です。イギリスと埼玉からのお客様を連れて行きました。（ご一緒に行ってくれて、有難うね！）

The Obasute Night View Tour is bone-chillingly cold in the winter, but on the flip side, the air is crisp and clear, making for a spectacular sight. This picture is from last night's tour, with some guests from the UK and Saitama. (Thanks for going with me!)
