台風9号が夜中この辺を通りました。５０ｋｍ南では高速道路や時には新幹線も通行止めになっていますが、こちらは雨降っただけで大丈夫です。千曲川がかなり上がってきていますが暴れなさそうです。軽井沢は停電の問題が続いているようですが、戸倉上山田温泉では午後から晴れる予定ですし、無事です。
Typhoon #9 passed through our area during the night. About an hour's drive to the south of us, freeways are still closed and electricity is down. Here, we're expecting the sun to come out this afternoon. Chikuma River, which runs through our town, has risen quite a bit but no worries about going over the banks. I wanted to go down to river and pick up more rocks for our outdoor bath project, but will have to wait until tomorrow.

朝、亀清旅館の裏の公園に散歩したら、発破が既に落ち始まっているのを見て、落ち葉とうちの美咲ちゃんのこのツーショットを撮りました。
During my morning walk, at the park behind Kamesei Ryokan I saw that the leaves have started to fall, and took this picture with our little girl, Misaki.

８月７日の花火大会に向かって、８月１，３，５日にもプッチ花火大会が行われました。千曲川で反射して、音が回りの山で響いて、とっても感動的でした。
Our town's huge fireworks display is 07-August. Leading up to that, we have had mini-displays on the 1st, 3rd and today, the 5th. With the pretty reflections off Chikuma River and the sound reverbrating from the surrounding mountains, fireworks here in Togura Kamiyamada are spectacular.

戸倉上山田温泉のおもてなしとして、温泉街の真ん中の公園の舞台で地元の冠着太鼓の演奏が行いました。迫力と才能のある太鼓なので是非一度！次の演奏が下記です。

この夏は戸倉上山田温泉の３つの宿で版画の作家、３人の作品が展示されています。温泉街をぶらぶら散歩しながらアートを楽しんでいただけます。
This summer 3 inns in town are displaying works by three different woodblock print artists. You can take a stroll around town and enjoy the artwork.

上山田温泉の夏祭りはとにかく迫力満点です。お神輿とお獅子はどこでもあるかもしれないけどこの温泉の祭りのエネルギーは他に負けない。是非一度見に来て下さい。
Kamiyamada Onsen's summer festival is intense. Festivals all over Japan have the omikoshi floats and shishi lions, but none can match the energy of ours. You just have to see it.

我が息子が近所の子供神輿をかついでいる所です。うちの地元のシアトルマリナースのイチロ選手の記念で今年のお神輿のテーマをイチロにしました。
Here's our son carrying our neighborhood's omikoshi portable shrine for day #1 of our town's summer festival. This year's float's theme is Ichiro, the Japanese baseball star of my hometown Seattle Mariners.

Kamesei Ryokan 亀清旅館

明日からが上山田温泉祭りです。それに向かって、今日は我々亀清旅館の十一区の祭りのテントを張る作業でした。お神輿も準備しました。皆が段々盛り上がってきました。
Our town's summer festival starts tomorrow, and in preparation our town set up its festival tent and prepared the omikoshi parade floats today. Everyone's getting excited for the big event!
亀清旅館 Kamesei Ryokan

In honor of all of our town's visitors for the past year, the other innkeepers and I gather up the worn geta sandals for a special offering as part of our annual festival. Here I am helping with the display. It's a nice reminder that our inns wouldn't be here without the support of all the guests.

戸倉上山田温泉のマスコットが戻ってきました：ハルカとハンゲツと言う馬２頭です。冬は温泉街でうろうろしていますが、夏は涼しい高原に行っているらしいです。が、今週末の温泉祭りの為に、戻ってきました。「わかれん」の次に「ばかれん」ですかな？２等とも子供が好きなので会えば是非挨拶して下さい。
Our onsen's mascots are back: Haruka and Hangetsu, two magnificent horses. During the winter, they can be seen all around town. They usually spend the summer up in the cooler highlands. But they're back no for this weekend's big festival. Say 'hi' if you see them.
