戸倉温泉と上山田温泉を結ぶ銀座通りが町興しの努力で最近話題になっています。（NHKの取材も！）
今日は冬にイルミネーションの取り付け。我々旅館若旦那達も手伝った。町興しって、最初からホームランを打つのではなくて、こういう日常的の努力ですよ。
The street that connects Togura Onsen with Kamiyamada Onsen is our Ginza. This Ginza has been attracting a lot of press lately with everyone's efforts to bring more life to the neighborhood. Today we put up lights to illuminate the cold winter.

我が子供の毎年楽しみにしているイベントは今日、さらしなの里古代体験パークで行われました。猪料理や縄文時代の色々な事を体験出来ます。長男が魚釣り、次男が塩焼き魚喰いを楽しめました。
Today was one of those events that our kids look forward to all year: The Jomon Era Festival at Sarashina-no-sato Ancient Experience Park. You get to dress up as the Jomon's did, practice starting fires by sticks, eat wild boar meat, and lots of other fun stuff. Our oldest son got a kick out fishing with a bamboo rod, and our middle guy pigged out on a fish salted and cooked on a skewer over an open fire.

今日の天気は写真のようにうんと綺麗でした。戸倉上山田温泉の裏の城山の木は色が変わり始めた。信州の紅葉を見においでやす！
As you can see from this picture, it was a perfectly clear autumn day today. The trees on Jyo-yama, the mountain behind our town, are just starting to change colors.

戸倉上山田温泉のそば祭は今日、行われました。その一部としてがこの足風呂。お湯は亀清旅館の提供。同時にハロウィーンもやりました。３００人以上(去年の三倍！）の参加者が今日の一日を楽しんでくれたようです。実行委員長の私がくたびれちゃって、風邪をひいちゃった。まあ、沢山の子供の笑顔があった為に良かったです。
Today was our onsen's soba festival, which included this foot bath. Hot Spring water provided by yours truly. Also taking place today was the Halloween party. 300+ participants (three-times more than last year!) enjoyed the event. Yours truly was the person in charge, and due to complete over-exertion came down with a nasty cold. But seeing all the smiling faces made it all worth-while.

21日の｢ハロウィーン仮装パーティーin戸倉上山田温泉」の為に、今日はパムプキンパッチ(かぼちゃ畑)に行って来ました。今年は人数がえらい増えました。100人前後の見込みが300人になりそう。実行委員長として、うまくいくと良いな！
For this weekend's Halloween party, some other members of the Chikuma Int'l Exchange Assoc. and I drove out to a pumpkin patch. My first time in 3 years to do so. (It was an annual favorite of mine when we were living in Seattle.) We were expecting approx. 100 people but we already have reservations for more than 300! As the person in charge, I hope the event goes well!

この二日間は私が防火管理の講習を受けていました。我々旅館がその免許を持っている人が必ずいなくて行けない。私が免許を無事に取れました。ご来館の皆様のご安心、安全の為！
These past 2 days I've been taking classes at the local fire department to get fire prevention certification.

２００７年ハロウィーンin戸倉上山田温泉が１０月２１日です。怖い仮装をつけて、温泉街の店を回って、Trick-or-Treatしてお菓子をいっぱいゲット！仮装コンテストやかぼちゃランタン作り等、楽しみは盛り沢山！子供達１５０人ぐらいが集まります。今年は又私が実行委員長なので質問があれば是非ご連絡をください。
Our town's annual Halloween party will be held on the 21st. Trick-or-Treat, jack-o-lantern carving, games, etc. Fun for all!

戸倉上山田温泉の周辺のりんご農園に顔を出してきました。写真の様にりんごの色が段々と綺麗になってきています。りんご狩りは１０月から無事に始まるようです。詳しくは：

Today I stopped in at one of the local apple orchards. As per the picture, they are turning color right on schedule. Apple u-pick will be available starting in October.

毎年の９月２３日に上山田温泉の地元の波閉科神社の秋祭りが行います。写真はお昼の子供相撲です。去年は私も相撲をやらせていただきました。今年はお神楽で獅子笛をやっていました。思い切りローカルの祭ですが、それはその良さがあります。
Every year on September 23rd, our local Habeshina Shrine holds its Fall Festival. Pictured is the afternoon kids sumo tournament. Last year I got to do sumo, too! But this year, I was with the O-Kagura shishi dance group playing the flute. The festival is about as local as you can get, but that has an inherit goodness to it.

鬼怒川温泉は色んな人から聞きました。そして、旅館組合青年部がその温泉で総会を開くって聞いて、せっかくだから行ってみると決心しました。今日は結局日帰りで行ってきました。温泉の真ん中に流れている川を大事に生かせているというところは感動的でした。戸倉上山田温泉もそうやって千曲川を背中ではなくて温泉の顔にして欲しいな。でも、鬼怒川のスケールの大きさで驚きました！
