戸倉上山田温泉の一番ユニークな観光スポット：にしざわ貯金箱かん。西沢さんご本人は８０００種類以上の貯金箱を集めましたので、展示する為に広い貯金箱かんを作りました。（２００８年４月にオープンした。）広いと言っても一時に３０００種類ぐらいしか展示できないそうです。そして、定期的に「企画展」でテーマに分けて入れ替える。

２０１２年９月～１０月の展示は「みじかな動物：イヌ・ウサギ・トリ」です。この間は寄ってみましたが、可愛いです。特に、招き犬の貯金箱は気に入りました。

子の初秋は楽しい発見をどうぞ。

「信州ブレイブウォリアーズ」は去年から生まれたプロバスケのチームで、ホームコートは何とこの戸倉上山田温泉です。近くて便利なので去年は三回も試合を見に行きました。

この間は久しぶりにウォリアーズの事務所に顔を出したら、２０１２・１３年度の予定が発表されていました。ポースターをもらってきたので早速亀清のお風呂場で飾りました。今年は何試合を見に行けるかな？一緒に応援しに行きませんか？

Last year, the Shinshu Brave Warriors pro hoops team was born. Their home court is right here in our onsen town, Togura-Kamiyamada. I stopped in at their office, and was happy to see a poster with their 2012-13 Schedule. We now have the poster on display here at our inn, Kamesei.

I can't wait to go to more of their games this season. Anyone want to go cheer them on with me?

信州ブレイブウォリアズ Shinshu Brave Warriors

8月の後半に無いってしまっているのでお知らせが偉い遅いですが、実は今年の8月はまたこの戸倉上山田温泉でチャリティー射的大会が行われています。

この戸倉上山田温泉で射的屋さんは３軒があります。知っている人は知っているって感じだが、旅館組合や町との活発的な交流が今までなかった。

去年はそれを変えました。私が先頭に立って、射的大会と言うイベントを立ち上がりました。旅館組合と遊技組合の協力のお蔭で、宿泊者は約１７０人が参加なされました。

今年は旅館組合の副部長、剛さんにバトン（鉄砲？）タッチをしまして、彼が今度先頭に立って、継続事業として管理しました。
この８月はまた戸倉上山田のそれぞれの旅館が射的券を販売しています。売り上げの一部は東北復興支援に回します。

この夏休みで戸倉上山田温泉にお越しになって、射的の楽しい思い出を作ったら如何ですか？ついでに、東北の支援にもなります。

Here at Onsen Town Togura-Kamiyamada, we are fortunate to have 3 "shateki" (cork-gun target shooting) arcades. Many guests go for a stroll after dinner and enjoy the challenge of a game or two.

Until recently, the shateki arcades kind of just did their own thing, and there wasn't much interaction with the ryokan association or the wider community.

Last year, I changed all of that. For the month of August, I instigated a charity shateki event. With the assistance of the ryokan association and the shateki arcades, over 170 people participated.

This year, I passed the baton (rifle?) to the 2nd in command of the junior ryokan association, and he is running the event now. Once again, for the month of August, we ryokans are selling shateki tickets with a portion of the proceeds to be donated to the Tohoku rebuilding effort.

So come and stay at Togura Kamiyamada Onsen this summer, try your hand at shateki, and help the Tohoku effort.

戸倉上山田に来て、旅館や商工会青年部の先輩方の「懐かしい話」で千曲川のイカダ下りの事は良く聞きました。残念ながら、その話は「懐かしい」だけで、イカダ下りは色んなトラブルに囲まれて、随分前に中止となった。

私は個人的に、千曲川が大好きで、ふれあえる場面がもっともっと欲しい。だから、イカダ下りは良いな！と、ずっと思っていました。先輩方の楽しそうな顔を見て、羨ましかった。

そして、運が良くて、実は去年に千曲川イカダ下りが復活された。ほんで、今年は私ども戸倉上山田旅館組合青年部はチームを出すようになった。

という事で、19日に私と有田屋さんの貴一郎君、ホテル晴山の亮君と私が温泉の大工さんの村越さん（カラコロ足湯や亀清旅館のしなの風呂などを作った人）が貸してくれたイカダに載って、温泉の噴水公園から出発して、千曲橋まで下りました。経験者の中央ホテルの小平先輩が立ち会ってくれた。

やはり、川から見る景色は違うね。川辺や周辺の山々、千曲市はどれだけ自然で恵まれているか、そして川遊びがどれだけ楽しいか、凄く良かった。

千曲川イカダ下りがこれからも大きくなって、より多くの方々が体験できるようになって欲しい。そして、皆で次の世代にこの「懐かしさ」を伝えたい。

Ever since moving to Togura-Kamiyamada 6-1/2 years ago, I heard stories of my elders in the ryokan association and chamber of commerce about rafting events on the Chikuma River. Their eyes would glaze over as they thought about all the fond memories of floating down the river. Unfortunately, a series of difficulties caused the event to be canceled long before I came on the scene.

Luckily, though, last year a bunch of old-timers started up the rafting event again, and this year, the ryokan junior association members got to borrow a raft and participate. So on the 19th, myself and two other junior innkeepers rode our loaner raft from the fountain park here in our onsen town Togura-Kamiyamada to Chikuma Bridge, about an hour and 10-minute float.

I'm used to just driving or taking the train through town. The view from the river is totally different. The gentle flow of the Chikuma River, the lush river bank, the green mountains surrounding all sides -- you really realize how blessed with nature Chikuma City is. And floating down the river is a lot of fun, too!

Hopefully the event will get bigger and bigger every year, so more people can experience the joy of rafting down the Chikuma. And our eyes can glaze over, too, with the fond memories.

先日は戸倉上山田温泉旅館組合の皆様と東京へ宣伝キャラバンで行ってきました。その時に週刊経済新聞の事務所にお邪魔し、戸倉上山田温泉戸倉上山田温泉の新しい湯巡り企画をお伝えしました。
その企画は新聞の8月11日号に取り上がりました。これで業界で戸倉上山田の湯巡りの情報が広がれます。1人でも多くのお客様が湯巡りを楽しんで頂けたら幸いです。

旅館の若旦那の仕事は布団引きだけじゃない;こうやって温泉全体の宣伝も重要だね。

Last month, I took the shinkansen into Tokyo with other members of the Togura-Kamiyamada Ryokan Association for a media blitz. During that 'caravan', I stopped at the offices of the Kanko Keizai (Tourism Economics) Newspaper and explained about our onsen town's new onsen-hopping plan.
In the August 11th issue of the newspaper, they included an article about Togura-Kamiyamada's new plan. I was thrilled to see it got such thorough coverage. Hopefully everyone in the industry will be aware of it now and more guests will enjoy the onsen-hopping pass.

My job as an innkeeper is more than just flipping futons -- it also means promoting the overall town like this.

夕べはこの戸倉上山田温泉の千曲川花火大会でした。毎年8月7日（旧暦の七夕）で行われます。今年は花火の上がる位置は少し北の方に移られたおかげで、我が宿亀清旅館からも見えました。

新しく出来た貸切露天「しなの風呂」からも見えた。

Last night, the main fireworks festival for our onsen town Togura-Kamiyamada were held over the Chikuma River. They are held every year on the 7th of August.

This year, the launch location for the fireworks was moved slightly upriver. That meant pyrotechnics were visible from our inn, Kamesei Ryokan. In fact, you could even see the fireworks from our new private outdoor onsen bath, the Shinano-buro.

Nothing like enjoying fireworks as you soak in a private onsen bath!

戸倉上山田温泉でおニューの商品が8月1日からスタート：

「かけ流し湯巡り」

亀清旅館を込めて旅館・ホテル16軒はお互いのお風呂をお互いのお客様に提供するとの企画。宿泊者は1000円を払えば自分の泊まっている宿のお風呂以外に2研のお風呂に入れます。
なおかつ、お風呂上りでそれぞれの宿はスイーツか飲み物を提供する。

亀清みたいな小さい宿のお客様が大きい宿の大浴場を楽しめて、逆にホテルタイプの宿のお客様は亀清旅館みたいな手作りの秘湯風な露天風呂に入れます。

取り敢えずは2013年3月末まで実施する予定です。温泉が好きな皆様に戸倉上山田温泉の3倍を楽しめる。是非、この機会を使って、我が温泉の良さを体験して下さい。

Togura Kamiyamada Onsen is introducing a new program for onsen lovers starting August 1st, 2012:

"Kakenagashi Onsen Meguri".

'Kakenagashi' refers to the onsen baths here in our onsen using the hot spring mineral water 100% naturally -- no added water, no re-heating.

'Meguru' means to go around from place to place.

So, 'Kakenagashi Onsen Meguri' basically means Onsen-Hopping. For 1000 yen, guests of the participating 16 ryokans can take an onsen bath in 2 other inns besides the baths in the inn at which they are staying.

In addition to being able to try other onsen baths, each inn will also provide an after-bath drink or dessert, included in the cost of the Onsen Meguri ticket.

For guests who stay at a small inn like ours, Kamesei Ryokan, it means they will also be able to try out one of the giant onsen baths at one of the larger inns. And guests of one of the hotel-like larger places can come and soak in Kamesei's cozy, hand-made outdoor bath.

With Togura-Kamiyamada's new Onsen-Hopping offer, onsen lovers and have triple the onsen enjoyment!

この戸倉上山田温泉では、「小石の湯」という旅館の宿主、西沢さんは語り部として有名です。戸倉上山田、そして善光寺や上田の昔話を伝えるとの事ですが、その伝え方は面白い訳。内容が分かっても、西沢さんの話し方によって皆さんは感激する。ご本人はもう伝説です。

周りからその語り部をもっと大々的にやって欲しいとの声に従って、この頃は商品化されました。

戸倉上山田温泉の新たな目玉が生まれました！

In Japan, there is a tradition of storytelling called "Kataribe". It's basically the retelling of childhood stories and local legends. But to watch a skillful Kataribe act, the fun is in the telling. You may already know the story's details, but someone skilled with the Kataribe craft keeps his or her audience enthralled in the story through the telling.

Here in Togura-Kamiyamada Onsen, we are fortunate to have such a storyteller. Nishizawa-san of Koishi no Yu ryokan is a master Kataribe craftsman. He brings alive the many legends of our onsen town as well as Zenkoji Temple, Ueda City and other nearby areas.

Everyone here has been pestering Nishizawa-san to open his act up so anyone can attend. Finally he caved in, and has officially started "Kataribe Night". He will perform his Kataribe every night except Mondays from 8pm at his ryokan's banquet room. Cost is 500 yen per person. For details, feel free to ask here at Kamesei Ryokan. Nishizawa-san's performance is in Japanese, but should be enjoyable to watch just to see his antics.

その浴衣を出して、炭坑節を練習しておいて、
戸倉上山田温泉で今年はまた盆踊り大会を開催します。
2012年の盆踊り大会は8月13日（月）、14日（火）と15日（水）で行う予定。
上山田温泉の本通りは歩行者天国になって、私ども商工会青年部は射的や金魚つくい、綿あめ、焼き鳥などの屋台を出して、賑やかになります。
踊り以外は大ビンゴ大会、すいか割り、冠着太鼓の演奏など時間帯によって様々なイベントも予定しています。

本当は私が今年の大会にミスター浴衣・ミス浴衣コンテストを復活したかったけど、説得力が足りず、残念ながら今年はない。まあ、それ無くても地元の皆様及びお盆の間にお越しになるお客様の皆様がご一緒に踊れますので、この夏こそ、盆踊りの良い思い出がきっとできると思います。

Dust off your yukata, practice your Tankobushi (coal miner's dance) moves, and get ready for this year's Togura-Kamiyamada Onsen Bon-Odori festival.

The Bon-Odori dates for 2012 will be August 13th (Monday), 14th (Tuesday) and 15th (Wednesday). Kamiyamada Onsen's main street will be closed to automobiles as the dance will take over the street. Me and the members of the Junior Chamber of Commerce will once again set up food and game booths.

Besides the dancing, the festival also features a giant Bingo contest, a watermelon-splitting contest, a taiko drum performance by our local Kamuriki Taiko troupe, and other fun events.

Actually, I was hoping to reintroduce a Mr. Yukata and Miss Yukata contest, but wasn't successful in persuading the powers that be. But even without a yukata contest, the dancing and other events are sure to make for a memorable O-Bon holiday for locals and visitors alike.

戸倉上山田温泉から車で５分、自転車で約１５分に智識寺がある。６月～７月にお寺の参道のアジサイが綺麗に咲いて、「あじさい寺」と言う別名。

今年は智識寺のアジサイは特に綺麗やって気がする。近場に行ったので行ってみたら、写真の様に紫陽花が並べて、彩に咲いていました。

その時に住職が挨拶してくれた。去年の４月から来ていて、若手の住職です。彼が来るまでは無人寺だったので国の重要文化財である秘仏、十一面観音の御開帳は年に一度だけだった。今は声をかければ、本堂を開けてくれるそうです。

本堂こそ、創建は1573年で国の重要文化財に指定されているそうです。茅葺屋根の建物で立派です。初夏の紫陽花の花と似合う。敷地内の木は秋になると赤や黄色に咲くのでそれはまた茅葺屋根の本堂と綺麗な合わせになる。

5 minutes by car or approximately 15 minutes by bicycle from our onsen town Togura-Kamiyamada is the venerable Chishiki-ji Temple. It is also known as "Ajisai-dera", or 'hydrangea temple', due to the beautiful hydrangea plants that line the temple's main path.

Since I was in the area, I stopped by to check out the hydrangea flowers. This year the flowers seem to be especially colorful and abundant. I also got to meet the head monk. He's a young chap (not sure, but not even 30 years old?), and just moved to Chishiki-ji last year. Until then, the temple was un-manned, and its sacred image, an 11-faced goddess statue (a designated National Cultural Treasure) was only displayed once a year. Now, just knock at the office and if the monk is there, he will gladly show you the statue.

The temple's main building is also a registered National Cultural Treasure. The thatched roof building was built in 1573. Its magnificent wood construction and timeless beauty of the thatched roof contrast so beautifully with the colorful hydrangea blossoms. And again in the fall, the contrast with the autumn leaves is striking, too.
