百年風呂の庭がそろそろ１歳になります。植物が段々となじんできました。この緑の中でお風呂に入るのは本当に気持ちいいです。時期の変更も感じれるし、それぞれの旬にいつも何か新しい花が咲いています。今回はこの白い花です。ガーデナーの岡田さんによると：

タイラーさんこんにちは。
この花は『シュウメイギク（秋明菊）』
学名はAnemone hupehensis var. japonica 。
学名からもわかるように、
名前にキクとついているけど
キク科ではなくアネモネの仲間です。
露天風呂のシュウメイギクは白花の一重咲きです。
秋を代表する花です

Our outdoor bath's garden will soon be 1 year old. The plants have gradually become accustomed to their new setting. Taking a bath in this natural surrounding is so relaxing. The garden really expresses the changes of the seasons -- every time I look there it seems there is a new flower in bloom. The flower of the season now is this tall, striking white one, Anemone hupehensis var. japonica. This flower is representative of Japan's native fall flowering plants.

戸倉上山田温泉発の正式の姨捨夜景ツアーに新しい得点が登場しました：この「戸倉上山田温泉屋名月の里・姨捨の記念切符」！ＪＲが発行する姨捨駅来場記念です。

Togura Kamiyamada Onsen's official Obasute Night View Tour has a new feature: this "Togura Kamiyamada Onsen to Obasute Station" souvenir ticket, produced by Japan Rail. The official tour takes place every Saturday night, and costs 1000 yen per adult. Please inquire at Kamesei Ryokan.

最近、冬に海外からの長野に来るスキー客の人数が増えています。欧米人では特にオーストラリア人が多いです。長い滞在も良くあるらしいです。休憩の日に地獄谷のスノーモンキースや松本城のツアーが人気です。今年は○村の観光協会がそのツアーのメニューを増やしたいのでうちの戸倉上山田温泉の観光協会に「良いお湯と美味しいお料理と芸者の演奏と着物着付け」の商品を作るように頼まれました。亀清旅館も協力しておりますのでこのような案を出してみています。スキー客だけではなくて、こんなようなパッケージに興味がある団体とかいらっしゃれば、是非お問い合わせを下さい。
Lately there has been a boom in skiiers coming to Nagano from overseas in the winter, especially Australians. They tend to stay for an extended period, and for their off days, there are popular day trips to see Matsumoto Castle or the snow monkeys of Jigokudani. This year, one local travel bureau is hoping to offer some new tours, and they approached our town's bureau about an 'Onsen + Kaiseki Meal + Geisha Show + Kimono wearing' plan. Kamesei Ryokan has been happy to oblige, and we put together this proposal. 千曲市の自慢：　採れたてりんご

長野県は県としてりんご生産の二番目である。１０月と１１月のころ、どこへ行っても「りんご狩り」の看板が見えてきます。県内はどこのりんごが一番美味しいかと言う話をしたら、恐らくけんかになってしまうかもしれない。でも、この戸倉上山田の周辺の産地は美味しい方ではないかと思う。ことしの出来上がりが去年のに負けないぐらい良さそうだ。そして、一番美味しく食べる方法は：採れたて！

沢山のりんご農園でりんご狩りが出来る。りんご狩りは素晴らしいりんごの試食も出来るし、農家の人達に会う機会にもなる。りんごについては驚くほど沢山の種類がある。「津軽」が8月から始まるので夏のりんごと呼ばれている。8月末からゴルデンデリシだ。今年は１０月１日から「千秋」と甘酸っぱい「紅玉」が始まる予定だ。その後はでかい「陽光」が出て来る。定番の「ふじ」が10月末から始まる。(下記の表参考)...

戸倉上山田温泉の近くに全国的に話題になっている田毎の月の棚田は収穫の時期に入りました。いつも夜で姨捨の夜景ツアーで行きますけど今日はお昼に通りました。この棚田はやはり昼にも綺麗ですね。時代が忘れれるような雰囲気です。

Near our Togura Kamiyamada Onsen town are the terraced rice paddies of Obasute called 'Tagoto-no-Tsuki'. Normally I go there at night taking guests on a tour to see the night view, but today I passed through in the afternoon. The view during the day is also so spectacular. It's harvest time now, and seeing the rice put up to dry gives the hillside a timeless feel.

女風呂の外の露天風呂つくりで次の出来事：５００リットルの灯油のタンクを持ち上げて、坊漏箱に設置する作業を今日、やりました。通常ならUNICのクレーン車を借りてやるけれど、隣の斉藤さんはブロックとタックルの機会なら出来ると言っていました。体験してみたかったので今日は二人で何とかやりました。ご年配の方の知恵（と機械！）がすごいなと感心しました。
The next step in making the outdoor bath for the Ladies' side was to somehow lift the 500 liter kerosene fuel tank into its containment box. Most people would probably rent a crane and do it, but our neighbor, Saitoh-san, said he has a block-and-tackle set up that would do the trick. So we got the machine into place, and managed to do it. I won't pretend it was easy (and there was certainly an element of it being better to be lucky than good!), but I feel a sense of achievement by doing it by our own physical power.

今日の姨捨夜景・伝説ツアーは得点付でした。偶然で長野市方面で花火が上がっていました。姨捨駅のホームから見えました。お客様も大喜びでした。

Tonight's Obasute Night View + Legends Tour had a special treat. Just by coincidence, we were able to see a fireworks display off in the distance. The guests were especially pleased.

宇宙では我々の知らないユニバースが沢山あると言われているが、地元でも知らないのが沢山あります。今日はその１つに始めて行きました：コンクリートのリサイクルの業者。千曲川沿いであちらこちらに土や石の山のある業者は以前から見ていました。そして、今度の露天風呂つくりの作業でコンクリートの壁を壊しましたので知り合いにコンクリートのリサイクルの業者を紹介してもらって、買ったばかりの軽トラに一杯積んで、もって行ってみました。その世界に入るのが初めてだった。遠くから見れば分からないけど、実際に行ってみれば、スケールの大きさでびっくりしました。軽トラが本当に小さく見えました。コンクリートリサイクル屋さん、その内にまた行きますので宜しく！
It is said that there are thousands of unknown universes in outerspace. Well, I say there are some here in our own backyard. Today I went to one: a concrete recycler. In starting the construction of our next outdoor bath, I demolished a concrete wall. A buddy told me where I could take the concret chunks for recycling. I had seen the businesses here and there along the Chikuma River that had mounds after mounds of dirt and rock. It was one of those that I was introduced to. So I piled the chunks into our just-purchased K-Truck (mini pick-up) and ventured out to this new (to me) universe. Seeing it up close makes you realize how big of an operation it is. The K-Truck seemed extra mini in comparison.

夕べの姨捨夜景・伝説ツアーはちょっと特別でした。中秋の名月にあわせて、姨捨駅の下の長楽寺さんと姨捨の棚田の一部がライトアップされました。せっかくでしたから、今回のツアーのメンバーと一緒に満月の光で棚田を歩きました。水の流れと無視の泣き声の音と、お月様のやわらかい光と、涼しい風が顔に当たって、収穫直前の稲の軽い香り。五感の喜びでした。姨捨の魅力でまた感動しました。
Last night's Obasute Night View tour included a little something extra special. In conjunction with the harvest moon, Chorakuji Temple and part of the rice paddies below Obasute Station were lit up. The members of the tour and I went for a walk through the terraced rice paddies with the full moon as our guide.
Once again I was mesmerized by the magic of Obasute.

去年は男の内風呂の外に「１００年風呂」という露天風呂を手造りで何とか、周りに手伝って頂きながら、楽しみながら、造りました。今度は女湯の外にもう１つを作る計画を立てております。造るに当たって、第１歩は現在、邪魔になっている灯油のタンクを玄関の方に移す事です。タンクの鉄板の箱を位置して、管を引き伸ばしました。そして、古い箱、コンクリートで出来ている物、を壊さなければならない。今日はそういう作業がすきそうな知り合いが泊まりに来ていましたので一緒にやりました。
また進展が出来たら、このブログでお知らせしたいと思っています。お客様のもう１つな楽しみ、この新しい露天風呂、が早目に出来るように頑張ります！
Last summer, with the help of a lot of people and through a lot of hard work, all the while trying to have fun, I built an outdoor bath outside the Men's Bath. This year, I intend to build another one outside the Ladies'. The first step is to relocate the heating oil tanks that are in the way. I went ahead and put in a new containment box and ran piping to the new location. The old concrete one now needs to be demolished. A buddy of mine came to stay today and he and I had at it with the jackhammer and sledge hammer. I am going to work to get this bath completed as soon as possible to give our guests a much more enjoyable onsen experience.
