毎度です!亀清旅館の青い目の若旦那です。このブログを呼んで頂いて、感謝しております。数年間下記続いていますので、お陰様で毎日、平均1500人ぐらいが見て頂いております。長野県、特に戸倉上山田温泉、そして亀清旅館の魅力をこの青い目の目線で発信したいと思っています。

このブログが分かり易くするために一点磨きたいと思っています。定期的に「まとめ」で少し整理する事。今回は初めてやってみま～す。

では、2011年8月（少し遅れて、ごめん!）の青い目の若旦那ブログのまとめ:

＊亀清旅館の家族風呂造りスタート
前から男風呂と女風呂の二つの内湯がありました。しかし、お客様から「温泉に入りながら、星の光も浴びたい」と言う声がありました。2007年に男湯の側に「100年風呂」と言う名前の露天風呂を作りました。そして2009年に女風呂の側にヒバの露天風呂が出来ました。お陰様で我が宿のお風呂の満足度が大分上がりました。ただし、最近は子供連れのご家族やカップルさん等から貸切風呂のご要望が増えています。従って：
亀清旅館の家族風呂を作り始まりました!
今回は一人でじゃなくて、ログハウスの大工、村越さんと一緒に。このブログで進む様子がみえます。

＊9・10月限定の新しいプラン：「秋の風・松茸の香り」
私ども亀清の皆は松茸が大好きで、香りの高い上品な松茸をお客様に提供する為にこの新しいプランを作りました。

＊秋の農業体験や果実情報
マイ味噌つくりやマイ玉葱つくりなどの体験そして、ぶどう狩り情報。

＊8月のイベント：千曲川花火、盆踊りと…射的大会!
8月と言えば、夏のイベントの時期！毎年の8月7日に千曲川の花火大会があって、今年は特に印象的。続いて、お盆の間は戸倉上山田温泉で盆踊り大会。私はポップコーンを始めて担当しました。
そして、今年で初めてのイベントもありました:私が計画した射的大会。お陰様で、好評だったし、メディアにも取りあがりました。

＊周辺の楽しみ
自転車で長い滑り台のびんぐし公園、自転車で千曲川サイクリング道路、上田市の拘りパン屋さん、菅平と高原野菜、冠着山のナイトハイク。

＊今の旬
田んぼは真緑から稲の黄色に変わってきました。
他のイベントとして千曲市のお神楽「サミット」と信州地酒1万人乾杯の情報。もう一つの嬉しい事は戸倉上山田のネオンが復活しました。そして、3.11以降の皆様の心配は目の見えない放射線;長野の最新情報が見れる所を紹介します。

＊一人事
久しぶりの朝5時座禅で改めて信州の静かさを楽しみました。
日本の「ひまわり観光」について。
鑑別師との出会い、Ｐｔ．２。（長野の旅館若旦那だからこその出会い。）
県旅館組合親会の出番（そして、県行政への不満）。

Howdy Everybody! I would like to take time to thank everyone for reading Kamesei Ryokan's "American Innkeeper in Japan" blog. There are approximately 1500 of you a day! I hope to keep on writing about all the interesting things I see here in Nagano as well as our onsen town, Togura-Kamiyamada, and especially about Kamesei Ryokan. All through my blue-eyed perspective.

In the hopes of making the blog easier to follow, occasionally I will post a summary of recent entries. Here's my first stab at it -- a summary for August, 2011.

*Starting Work on a Family Bath
When we moved to start helping out at Kamesei almost 6 years ago, there were only the 2 indoor onsen baths. Guests often commented that they wanted to bathe in the starlight as they soak in the onsen. In 2007, I built our "100-Year Bath" open-air onsen bath outside the men's bath. Then in 2009, I installed another outdoor bath next to the women's bath, this one made of yellow-cedar.
Lately, we have seen more and more of a need for a family bath that guests can use privately. So this summer, I broke ground on a family bath. You can follow the progress on our blog.

*New Autumn Plan -- Matsutake Mushrooms
We here at Kamesei love the elegant aroma of matsutake mushrooms, so we created this new plan for our guests to enjoy.

*Fall Farming Action
'My Miso Making' and 'My Onion Planting' activities as well as grape picking.

*August Events: Fireworks, Bon Odori Dance and -- Shateki Shooting
August means summer festivals, and our town's biggest one is the Chikuma River Fireworks Display, held every year on the 7th of August. This year's was particularly memorable.
Then there was the Bon Odori dance, where Yours Truly did the popcorn popping for the first time.
And we had a new event, a Shateki Shooting Tourney that I instigated. We got some pretty good coverage from the local media.

*Around Town
Bicycling to Bingushi Park as well as along the Chikuma River.
Ueda City's European-style bread shops, Sugadaira's 'highland lettuce'、and a night hike atKamuriki Mtn.

*'Tis the Season
If you blinked, you'd miss the area rice fields turning from deep green to golden yellow. Some interesting events were the Chikuma City Okagura (Lion Dance) Summit and a Nagano sake 10,000 person toast. A bit of good news was our town's neon came back. And something everyone is worried about post-3.11: radiation.

*Ramblings
Went to 5am zazen meditation for the first time in a while, and came to appreciate even more Nagano's peaceful quietness.
My take on Japan's 'Sunflower Tourism'.
My second meeting with a silkworm 'kanbetsu-shi'. I never would have had this opportunity had I not become a ryokan proprietor.
First time at a Nagano Ryokan Association parent committee (and a rant about the prefecture's Tourism Department).

今月は私たち戸倉上山田温泉旅館青年部が温泉の射的屋さん４件と連携して、射的大会を行っています。８月１０日に「若旦那と射的で勝負」と言う目玉イベントを開催した時に、地元の新聞社とケーブルテレビに声をかけてみました。

有難い事で、千曲ケーブル（８月１１日）、信濃毎日新聞（１２日）と長野市民新聞（昨日、２０日）の皆が紹介してくれました。

少しでも戸倉上山田温泉は家族も喜べるよ!と言うイメージアップになったのではないかと思います。メディアの皆様、有難うございました。

This month, the Togura Kamiyamada Onsen Ryokan Junior Association is presenting a shateki event in conjunction with the 4 shateki (cork gun target shooting) shops in our onsen town. August 10th was the signature event: we junior innkeepers took on all challengers in a shateki tournament.

I invited the local newspapers and cable TV station to the event. Thankfully, they all ran features on it. Chikuma Cable on the 11th, Shinmai (Nagano's biggest newspaper) on the 12th, and the Nagano Shimin Shimbun yesterday, the 20th.

Hopefully the coverage served to improve our town's image as a family-friendly onsen town. I am so grateful for the cooperation of our local media!

観光の雑誌の世界は色々と変化してきています。インターネットの時代の中で雑誌の必要性がなくなっている一方、もう一方で無料雑誌が増えています。例えば、この夏からるるぶFREEの長野・善光寺版がデビューしたのは1つの例です。

有料の雑誌の存続が厳しくなってきた中で、じゃらん社が新しく「信州」と言う雑誌を出しました。るるぶFREEとか他の無料雑誌と比較したら、中身がかなり濃くて、地元中心の情報です。考えてみれば、当たり前です。無料の雑誌の場合、お金さえあればのっけてもらえる。つまり、スポンサー制。「地元で人気店が載っていない；どうかと思われる店ばかり」の様な内容が多い。

じゃらん「信州」の戸倉上山田の紹介では、お客様が実際に喜ばれている穴場的な情報がしっかり入っている。「島屋」甘露煮専門店の鮎甘露煮から大勝館の大衆演劇まで、射的やおしぼりうどんなどなど。逆に、紹介してもらいたくないラーメン屋さんも載っている：大黒屋はこれ以上人気になってしまえば混んでいて入れなくなってしまう。

その「地元の事が詳しい」秘密はじゃらんの現地スタフが内容を提供しているから。例えば、じゃらんネットの戸倉上山田温泉担当が周辺に住んでいて、なおかつ我々旅館の経営者と随時に打ち合わせしているから、どこが喜ばれているか詳しい訳です。

そして、宿の紹介はじゃらん独特のじゃらんネットクチコミ4.5以上の4件が紹介されています。お金を出してのっけてかくて駄目な訳。お陰様で亀清旅館も載っております。口コミ総合4.6（夕食は何と4.9!）という事。

もう既に、それを見てお越しになったお客様もいらっしゃいました。長野の観光情報はじゃらん「信州」をお勧め。

The sightseeing guide industry is facing tough times. On one hand, so much info is now available on the internet. On the other hand, there has a boom in free magazines lately. For example, popular 'Rurubu' guide just this summer released a free Zenkoji / Northern Nagano edition.

How can the for-purchase magazines survive? One new challenger has come on the scene this summer: Jalan's "Shinshu" (Nagano) magazine. Compared to the free magazines with biased content (places featured don't have to be good, they just have to have the money to buy advertising) and internet sites with questionable reliability, Jalan's magazine is full of detailed, useful content.

For example, for the Togura Kamiyamada Onsen area, the restaurant that serves the hottest version of our local noodle specialty 'oshibori udon' as well as a very unassuming marinated fish shop are featured. Not exactly sexy, touristy places, but shops that us locals cherish. Jalan also featured one of our local ramen shops which really bothers me -- if Daikokuya gets any more popular, I'll never be able to get a seat in there.

What's Jalan's secret for providing such insider knowledge? Simple -- their local representatives provide the details. Our onsen's local rep lives in the vicinity and is in constant contact with us ryokan owners, so she knows what is popular and what's not.

And regarding Jalan's Shinshu magazines listings for accommodations, they feature establishments with the highest customer satisfaction ratings from their reservation website. That assures the best selection of inns. For Togura Kamiyamada Onsen, that includes us, Kamesei Ryokan!

So if you're looking for a tourism guide for Nagano, skip the free mags and get Jalan's "Shinshu".

今日の信濃毎日新聞にも戸倉上山田温泉周辺のサイクリングマップが登場しました。信毎の千曲市の記者、岡田さんがマップの件で先週にインタビューしてくれました。千曲サイクリングクラブと里山みどり守る会のご協力を頂いて、私とプロデューサーの宮坂さんが自らそれぞれの自転車・ハイキングコースを通って、素敵なマップが出来ました。信毎を通じて、より多くの方々がこのマップを利用して、戸倉上山田温泉の周辺のハイキングとサイクリングを楽しんで頂きたいです。そして、良い汗をかけてから、是非、温泉に入って頂きたいと思っています。

私はこうやって色んなイベントや観光資料作成に参加している中、戸倉上山田温泉を楽しんで頂いている市民や観光客が少しでも増えているのではないかと思いたいです。そして、この活動のもう一つな効果は最近に気付きました。次の計画の準備の中で、この町のある偉い人と打ち合わせしました。「新聞とかお前の活動をよく見ている。この新しい企画に協力してあげるよ」と言ってくださりました。

つまり、私の活動は皆が小さい事ですが、1つ1つ進んでいく中で、段々と広い事が出来る様になる筒。これからも戸倉上山田温泉の魅力を発信したいと思っていますので、宜しくお願いします!

UPDATE:信毎の記事が好評だったようです。あまりにも好評で、マップの問い合わせは沢山あって、千曲市観光課及び観光協会で売り切れになってしまいました。現在は増刷予算志願中です。

Our onsen town's new map, the Togura Kamiyamada Onsen Hiking / Cycling map is in the news again. This time, it is this morning's Shinmai, Nagano Prefecture's main newspaper. Hopefully this publicity will mean more people use the map and enjoy cycling and hiking in our area. All the work that I and the others put into it is paying off!

Not only is the publicity welcome as to getting the word out about our area's hiking and cycling, but lately I've noticed another positive effect. I recently approached one of our town's elders about a new project. He replied that he'd read about my endeavors in the newspaper, and expressed a willingness to cooperate. All the events and publications that I have helped out with here may be small in and of themselves. But the collective effect has certainly been beneficial and will hopefully lead to even bigger and better things.

UPDATE: The Shinmai newspaper article was a hit! So much so that our town's Tourism Department and Tourism Association are 'sold-out'. I'm working on lining up funding for a reprint!

長野市周辺の「長野市民新聞」にこの間に出来た戸倉上山田温泉拠点のハイキング・サイクリングマップを紹介して頂きした。

記者の横山さんが我がブログでお知りになって、「取材して良いですか」と言ってきてくれました。千曲川や周辺の山々をサイクリングやハイキングで是非に楽しんで頂きたいので、取材にもちろん、協力しました。

プロデューサーの宮坂さん達や千曲サイクリングクラブと里山みどり守る会の皆様の努力のお蔭で出来たマップなので、新聞を通じて生かせて良かったと思います。

The regional newspaper for Nagano City and its surrounds featured the new Togura Kamiyamada Onsen Hiking / Walking Map in its 23-June issue.

Yokoyama-san, the reporter, found out about the new map through this blog and called up the other day to interview me. It is my hope that more people enjoy our area's mountains and the Chikuma River more via hiking and cycling, so of course I cooperated with the interview.

A lot of work went into the map, so I am glad it is getting exposure from the newspaper. Producer Miyasaka-san and his colleagues, the Chikuma Cycling Club and the local mountaineering folks really helped out. It's great to see that everyone's efforts are paying off!

業界の週刊新聞の観光経済新聞の「よその旅館ホテル」の第６２７回で青い目の若旦那・亀清旅館が紹介されました。

先日は宣伝キャラバンで東京に行った時に、観光経済新聞の事務所にもお邪魔しました。その時に印象が残った様で、後日に連絡が来まして、インタビューされました。

他の旅館経営者に参考になったらうれしいです。内井様、格好良い文章を有難うございまいした!私にとっては思い出になる記事です。

One of Japan's tourism industry newspapers, the Kanko Keizai Shimbun, runs a column that features a different ryokan or hotel owner every week. For the 627th installment, they decided to feature the "Blue-eyed Innkeeper" and Kamesei Ryokan.

A few weeks ago, I stopped in at Kanko Keizai's office in Tokyo during Togura Kamiyamada Onsen's PR annual PR trip. Apparently I left an impression on the staff, because a few days later they contacted me and before I knew it, I was being interviewed.

I hope the article provides some insight for other innkeepers. And I thank Uchii-san for his skilled writing. This is definitely a keepsake article for me!
