以前は「青い目の若旦那」という事で、新聞やテレビの取材が時々ありました。最近は私の活動がお蔭さまで注目してきています。
今日の信濃毎日新聞に戸倉上山田温泉のハロウィーンについての記事がありました。私は実行委員長としてＱｕｏｔｅされています。(p.29, 寺沢　順子さんのＣｏｌｕｍｎにて）
そして、１０月７日のＪａｐａｎ　Ｔｉｍｅｓに日本の伝統を守っている活動として有道出人さんの記事に書いて頂いております。
今年は私の個人のテーマは社会貢献なのでその活動が新聞まで注目されているのは非常に嬉しいことです。これからも頑張りたいと思っておりますので是非、宜しくお願いいたします。

When I first move to Nagano and started out here at Kamesei Ryokan, I received some publicity in the local newspapers and TV just for the novelty of being a blue-eyed innkeeper in Japan.
However, recently I have been getting publicity for some of my activities. Today's Shinano Mainichi, Nagano Prefecture's daily newspaper, had an article on Togura Kamiyamada Onsen's upcoming Halloween event. It featured a quote by me, the organizing chairperson.
Tuesday's Japan Times had an article by Debito Arudou and he included a line on my positive activities here at the onsen.
I find these articles to be very rewarding. Please wish me luck in keeping up on my activities!

常連のお客さんの関さんがエッセークラブに入っているようで、この間は「亀清旅館」と言うテーマで文を書かれました。せっかくですから、ここで発表いたします。
One of our regular guests, Seki-san, is a member of an Essay Club, and he recently wrote an essay with Kamesei as the theme, as per below (Sorry -- Japanese only.)

タイラとマリの温泉旅館

　梅雨のあいまの夕日が山の端に落ちて行くのを眺めながら、山里の温泉露天風呂に体を沈め、すっかりくつろいだ気分になっていた。時おり千曲川を渡って来る爽やかな風が、湯煙をゆらして、ほてった肌に新地よくあたる。
　ここは、信州上山田温泉街の路地裏にある小さな温泉旅館「亀清」である。
　昔ながらの平屋で、間口の広い玄関を入ると、古風な囲炉裏のある応接間に迎えられる。紫陽花の咲く中庭をはさんで渡り廊下を回って行くと、十二ほどの個室が連なる落ち着いた雰囲気の宿である。
　地元の友人の紹介されて、この温泉宿を訪れてから、この静かなたたずまいとかけ流しの豊かな温泉にすっかり魅せられて、再び足を運んできた。
　周囲の高層ホテルに比べれば、いかにも昔の名残りをとどめたような「亀清」に親しみを感じるのは、豊富な温泉湯だけではない。
　実はこの旅館の主人は、アメリカ人タイラーさん。日本人の奥さんマリさんと老母さんの三人で宿を切りもりしている。
　タイラーさんは２メートルもある長身のやさ男で笑顔がたえない。いつも地味なサムエを着て、朝夕の食事サービス、布団の上げ下げ、風呂の掃除、お客の送迎など、毎日忙しく働いている。しかも流暢な日本語で。
　夕食後、食膳を片付けに部屋に来たタイラーさんに聞いてみた。
「どうして信州にやってきたのですか？」
「僕はシアトルで...マリと結婚して、貿易会社をやっていたんです。ところが、急にマリの父親がなくなり、老母ちゃん一人だけでは経営が大変だから、マリと一緒に日本に帰って旅館の仕事をしないかと(思いました)。小さな子供も二人いたんですが、信州に来る決心をしたんです。」
「それにしても、今までの経験もない旅館の仕事をするのは、大変苦労したでしょう？」
「僕はこの信州が好きなんです。山に囲まれ千曲川も目の前に流れているし、空気がとっても美味しくていいところですよ。」
「近所の人や他の旅館の主人たちとの付き合いは大変だったでしょう？」
「始めは、旅館組合の人や商店街の旦那達と付き合うのに苦しましたよ。でもすぐに皆さんと仲良くなりました。」
　素朴なたたずまいの中にも、家族的なもてなしの心を忘れないタイラーとマリの小さな温泉旅館を何とか応援したい。

Myself and the other innkeepers in town have started a new blog (sorry, in Japanese only). There are a lot of unique personalities (myself included), and it's making for a pretty funky blog.

2005年の秋に私が後継ぐ為に亀清に引越ししてきました。そのころにこのブログを始めました。それ以降、ブログのコモクの数は500個を越えました。今年の三月からは毎日のペースです。「今日は何を書こうかな？」と言うより、「今日の面白い事のどれを選ぼうか」と言う問題の方が多いです。この旅館若旦那の生活で毎日に楽しい事があります。このブログを読んで頂いている皆様はそれを感じて頂いているではないかと思っております。そして、読んで頂いている方は毎日平均で1200人以上いらっしゃいます。多い日は2000人も超えます。ブログを見てお越しになるお客様もいらっしゃるし、このブログを通じて沢山の良い知り合いがで来ました。ありがたい事です。亀清旅館、そして長野県の良さを多くの方々とＳｈａｒｅしたいと思っております。この青い目の若旦那のおもてなしの1つです。そのおもてなしは見事に良い形になってきています。部屋を提供しているサイト、じゃらんネット、のクチコミの数は100件に近付いていますし、「サービス」の点数は何と4.7です（5点満天）。せっかく努力しておりますからこの良い結果が出せれるのは嬉しい事です。
これからのブログは戸倉上山田温泉と信州の良さをどんどんＰＲしていきたいと思っております。そのうち、この青い目の若旦那の見方も見えてきたら有難いです。これからも宜しくお願い致します。
I moved here to Kamesei to start helping out in the Fall of 2005. About that time, I started this blog, and since then have recorded over 500 entries. Since March of this year, it's been on a daily basis. Rather than trying to find something to write about every day, more often than not I have the problem of deciding which topic to write about. Through running this inn, I have fun and interesting experiences every day. I think that shows in my blog entries, and maybe that is what attracts people's attention. It's surprising how many readers there are -- an average of over 1,200 per day, with some days reaching over 2,000. I am humbly grateful. Often times, guests show up and mention they read my blog, and I have made a number of acquaintances thanks to the blog. I am hoping to share Kamesei's and Nagano's greatness with the world through this blog. That's part of my 'omotenashi' service. And thankfully, that service is starting to take shape. Our main source for reservations is a Japanese site called Jalan. We are getting close to the 100 comment milestone on the site, and our 'Service' score is 4.7 out of a possible 5.0. It is encouraging to see people responding favorably to my service.
From here on out, I hope to make the blog even more useful for introducing our onsen, Togura Kamiyamada, and Nagano Prefecture to the world. Thank you everyone for reading!

東京テレビの「男はつらいよ」記念トラベル番組の中で亀清の取材もありました。今晩に放送されたので見た親戚から「よく映っていたよ！露天風呂と若女将の食事の案内と若旦那の夜景ツアー、良かったよ！」と言う声を頂きました。そして、放送された最中に「今、テレビを見ているけど予約をしたい」と言うお電話も。やはりテレビの力がすごいですね。
Tokyo TV aired a special travel program tonight that featured Kamesei Ryokan. We heard from a relative that watched it that they showed our outdoor bath, Mari's serving the meal, and my Obasute Night View tour. We even received a call during the broadcast by a viewer wanting to make a reservation. That shows you how strong the power of TV is! I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Tokyo TV for choosing Kamesei for their program!

「寅さんが旅した日本」と言う番組で、寅さんが亀清のような昔ながらの宿が好きだったと言うことで、テレビ東京が今日、明日、亀清で撮影することとなっています。今日は宿やお風呂などの分でした。放送日は８月１３日の予定だそうです。残念ながら長野で放送されないのですが、東京の皆様は宜しければ是非ご覧になってください。
The longest running serial movie series in the world, 'Otoko ha tsurai yo' (Tora-san) is celebrating its 40th anniversary. Tokyo TV is making a travel program involving some of the areas the movies took place. Apparently, the main character, Tora-san, liked to stay at classical ryokans and Tokyo TV chose Kamesei for their Nagano shoot. They filmed the inn and bath, etc. today and will do some more tomorrow. The show is scheduled to be broadcasted 13-August. Unfortunately, it won't be shown here in Nagano, so those of you in Tokyo, please check it out!
