今日の日の入りがうんと綺麗でした。千曲川と周辺の山と間は温泉。Today's sunset was really beautiful, with Chikuma River in the foreground, the mountains in the background, and our onsen town in between.

春に準備した薪がぶどうの葉っぱでかぶらされて、こんな良い風性になりました。そろそろロビーの薪ストーブを使うかな？The firewood I stacked in the spring has been covered by grape leaves, creating this relaxing scene.

Here it is late August, and the hot days are continuing. At least it gives our little Misaki-chan a chance to wear her sun dress from Grandma.

８月の後半でまだこの残暑が続いている。でも、このお陰で我娘、美咲ちゃん、がグランマ空もらった夏用のドレスが着れる。

今朝、尾崎様のお子さん達が亀清の中庭の池の鯉にえさをやってくれました。有難う！鯉が嬉しそうに食べた。
This morning, the Ozaki party's children fed our koi fish in the pond in our naka-niwa garden. The fish sure looked happy!

What's Tanabata, you may be asking? It's a legend about two star-crossed lovers, Altair and Vega, and their once-a-year pairing across the Milky Way. (For Wikipedia's version, click the title.) The festival is celebrated with lots of bling, like the one our kids and I made here at Kamesei Ryokan (pictured).
七夕なんですけど、最近は飾っている所が段々と少なくなっています。うちの近辺は亀清旅館だけです。なぜこの外人が日本の伝統を守らんとあかんでしょうか？(笑い）

都市からこの田舎に引越しした際、生活が変わると分かっていました。でも、虫がペットとなると思わなかった。写真はうちの息子のかっているかぶと虫と近所のりんたろう君。
When we moved from my hometown Seattle to the countryside here in Nagano, I knew we would experience a change in lifestyle. But I had no idea we'd have a pet beetle in our house. Pictured is our son's kabuto beetle and our neighbor Rintaro.

自分の家にツバメの巣が出来たら運が良いと言います。今年は亀清旅館の玄関ドアの右上にこの巣が出来ました。糞とか落ち草が少し面倒ですが、巣を残しています。最近、小鳥の声もありますし、そろそろ飛んで、どっか行ってしまうでしょうね。今の内に楽しまなきゃ。
They say it's good luck if swallows build a nest at your abode. This year, some swallows made one just above Kamesei Ryokan's front door. The birds make a mess, but we are leaving the nest alone. Besides, the baby birds sure are cute!

この写真のメンバーが特別です。皆さんはマッサージ師です。そして、皆さんは目が不自由です。亀清のお風呂の真前の部屋がとっても便利だと言ってくれました。
This group of ladies is special. They are all masseuses. And, they are all blind. They enjoyed their stay here, especially the convenience of the guestrooms being right across the hall from the mineral baths.

ツツジが終わりかけ、今度アジサイが綺麗に咲いてきました。ついでに梅雨の雨が降ってきました。アジサイの落ち着いた色が梅雨になんとなく合っています。
The hydrangeas have started to bloom as if to take the place of the azalea flowers that have started to decline with the coming of the rainy season. The subtle colors of the hydrangeas seem to match the feeling of the rainy season.
