千曲サイクリング道路は戸倉上山田温泉から、千曲川沿いで
下流（北）は飯山まで、
上流（南）は上田市まで
走っています。
当温泉から万葉橋近辺から土手をしばらく走れば、万葉スポーツエリアとのつながり道はずっと工事中で走り禁止となっていました。
しかし、先日は久しぶりに自転車で走ってみたら工事が終わって、出来立て（？）の新しい橋を走る事が出来ました。

（ただの自転車道路にこんな立派な橋が必要かとの疑問がありますが…）

この秋は千曲川沿いのサイクリングはいかがですか？川辺や周辺の景色を楽しみながら気持ちいい運動が出来ます。我が亀清旅館でレンタサイクルがございますので気楽でどうぞ。（１日・５００円、宿泊者限定）

The Chikuma Cycling Road spans out from our onsen town Togura-Kamiyamada all the way to Ueda City upriver (south) and to Iiyama City downriver (north).
Just upriver from our onsen, though, one stretch of the path had been closed for construction. The other day, I went for a spin on my bike and was pleased to see the road is open again as the bridge construction is complete.

(Such a magnificent bridge for just a simple bike path?)

This fall, how about a bike ride along the Chikuma River, enjoying the view of the river as well as the surrounding mountains all while getting some great exercise. Here at Kamesei Ryokan, we have rental bicycles available for your convenience. (500 yen per day, for ryokan guests only.)

戸倉上山田温泉を出て、千曲川沿いのサイクリング道路を通って、稲荷山の蔵の街と細い道をうろうろして、シルキーでお好み焼きを食べて、またサイクリング道路で川辺と周辺の山々の景色を楽しみながら帰る。

それが私の一番好きなサイクリングコース。

先日はベルギからの留学生を連れて、二人で自転車で通ってきました。彼はレンタサイクルで。私は稲荷山の土壁の蔵を見るのが好きだ合ったが、彼はそれより、それぞれの住宅の庭を見るのが好きだった。なるほど、その楽しみもあるのだ。

Depart our onsen town Togura-Kamiyamada,
Ride the bicycle path along the Chikuma River to the Inariyama historical district,
Ooh and Aah over the classic earthen-walled storehouses and wander the narrow alleys,
Stop for lunch at okonomiyaki restaurant Silky,
Then ride back along the bike path enjoying the beautiful river valley and the scenic mountains on either side.

That's my favority bicycle course. We briefly hosted an exchange student from Belgium and I took him with me for a ride to Inariyama. Me on my road bike, he on one of our town's rental cycles.

I really enjoyed seeing the old warehouses, but the exchange student liked seeing the various gardens more. Hmm, everyone has their own parts of Inariyama they enjoy.

昨日は子供達と自転車で上流へのびんぐし公園に行って、今日は今度、下流で冠着橋のループコースを自転車で通りました。帰りは千曲川沿いのサイクリング道路。とにかく、川辺と周辺の山々の景色でホッとします。戸倉上山田は自転車乗りで最高な温泉です。

レンタサイクルもあるし、新しいサイクリングマップもあるし、一緒に楽しみましょう!

この頃は晴れている日が続いていて、自転車を乗りたくなる様な天気だ。亀清旅館を含めて、戸倉上山田温泉の宿は全部で５か所で、「みどりの自転車」のレンタサイクルが置いてあります。

戸倉上山田の周辺は自転車巡りに向いています：
千曲サイクリングロードが千曲川沿いを走るので川辺や周辺の山景色が楽しめる。
２０～３０分ぐらい走れば、南は力石、北は稲荷山という土壁の蔵がたくさん残っている地域があって、自転車のペースで回りながら、その昔の時代の風情がゆっくり見れる。
とにかく、全部が平らですから、自転車は気持ちよく走れます。

その自転車則を応援する為に、亀清に置いてあるレンタサイクルの為に看板を作りました。お泊りになる方、特に滞在なされる方に戸倉上山田での自転車乗りの楽しみを知ってほしいです。

千曲サイクリングクラブが市長と交渉し、駅で捨てられた自転車を頂いて、整理して、そして女将の会から譲ってもらった自転車と合わせて、私たちが全部を緑のペンキで塗装しました。温泉の旅館組合が持ち主になってくれて、保険もかけてくれました。

Lately we've been having such great sunny weather -- perfect for bicycling. And here at Kamesei along with 4 other inns in Togura Kamiyamada Onsen, we offer rental bicycles for our guests.

Togura Kamiyamada is perfectly suited for bike riding:
The Chikuma Cycling Road follows the river in both directions from town, allowing riders to enjoy the riverside scenery as well as views of the green hills and mountains all around.
20-30 minutes both to the south (Chikaraishi) and north (Inariyama) are neighborhoods with numerous earthen-walled storehouses, remnants from the time when they were used for raising silkworms.
The great thing about all of this (for bike riders) is: it's all flat! The Chikuma River valley is perfect for riding around.

Thanks to the Chikuma Cycling Club's efforts of getting the mayor to give us some of the thrown-away bikes from the local stations, and the sponsorship of the ryokan association, we can offer these bicycles for use for our guests. Now all we need is for you to come and ride!

我が子供達と楽しいチャリ乗りしてきました。戸倉上山田温泉から、千曲川沿いのサイクリング道路で川辺と周辺の山の景色を楽しみながら、気持ち良い風に乗って千曲市の稲荷山地区まで自転車で走りました。私は稲荷山の土壁の蔵が大好きで、自転車で細い道をゆっくり走って、所々の蔵を見るのは楽しみです。子供たちの一番の楽しみがその先：稲荷山温泉「杏泉閣」の電気風呂。片道8.5ｋｍでした。
途中で王龍のチャーハンとラーメンを食べました。そこで千曲サイクリング倶楽部のスピッツさんと行き会ったし、マスターのおもちゃの電気バイクと遊ばしてもらったし、盛り上がりました。
お昼を食べている時に、子供たちに｢ちなみに、父の日はいつでしたっけ？｣と聞いた。「えっ、分からない｣と言われた。やはり、忘れていると思った！実は、今回のチャリ乗りは裏の目的があった：自分への父の日のプレゼント。

I grabbed the kids and we hopped on our bikes for a bike ride. We rode the bike path along the Chikuma River from Togura Kamiyamada Onsen the 8.5km to Inariyama, Chikuma City's historical district known for its earthen walled storehouses. I love wandering around the narrow streets by bicycle, oohing and aahing over the cool storehouses. The kids were more interested in what lay beyond: the "electric bath" at the Kyosenkakuku bath house.
On the way, we stopped for lunch at Ouryu. Chikuma Cycling Club's Spitz-san is a fan of their ramen, and by lucky coincidence, he happened to stop in as we were eating. We got to chat with him, and then the master let our kids ride is his electric toy scooter -- lots of fun!
As we were eating, I asked our kids, "By the way, when is Father's Day?" "Uhh, I don't know." Ah ha! I had a hunch they had forgotten. Actually, I had an ulterior motive for this father and kids bicycle ride -- a father's day present to myself.

千曲サイクリングクラブ（ＣＣＣ）は普段の長距離ヒルクライムを保留して、戸倉上山田温泉の緑のレンタサイクルで隣の坂城町のバラ祭まで出かけました。私は久しぶりに参加して、子供たちを連れて皆と一緒に走りました。リーダーのスピッツさんは村上義清の里を案内して、そしてチョコ工場のロビニアにもよって、坂城バラ園で休憩しました。（花より団子というか、バラよりチョコだったかな？）坂城バラ祭は毎年に大きくなっています。今回は太鼓の演奏もあって、そしてなぜかチロール踊りも（日本の坂城町で？）。最後は千曲川沿いのサイクリング道路で温泉に戻りました。山ノ内町のＣｒａｚｙ　Ｃｒａｉｇも来てくれて、他の子供たちも参加していて、ＣＣＣは段々と親子化そして国際化になって、嬉しいです。
The Chikuma Cycling Club took a break from the long distance hill climbs for a family fun ride today. Several of the members used the Togura Kamiyamada Onsen green rental cycles for a leisurely ride to neighboring Sakaki town for the Rose Festival. Our kids and I hopped on our bikes, and joined the ride. Along the way, our leader, Spitz-san, guided us to several locations related to local samurai hero Murakami Yoshikiyo, then we stopped at the Lobenia Chocolate Factory before enjoying the fragrant roses at the Sakaki Rose Park. The Sakaki Rose Festival seems to get bigger and better every year. We got to see some of the entertainment, too -- a taiko drum performance followed by some traditional Tirolean dancing. (In Sakaki, Japan? Don't ask!) Finally, we followed the Chikuma Cycling Road along the Chikuma River back to Togura Kamiyamada Onsen. All in all, a very enjoyable excursion. My buddy Crazy Craig from Yudanaka came, and there were a few other kids riding too, so the Chikuma Cycling Club is getting more and more international as well as family friendly, too!

*Follow the Chikuma Cycling Road along the Chikuma River to Kogai Bridge (rest stop)
*Peddle through Sakaki Town (tour various sites related to Sakaki's samurai hero, Yoshikiyo Murakami)
*Stop at Lobinia Chocolate Factory's factory store
*Have lunch at the Sakaki Rose Festival site
*Return via the Chikuma Cycling Road, finish at 2pm.

For those without bicycles, the Togura Kamiyamada Onsen green rental bikes will be available, so come and enjoy this fun event with everyone!

千曲サイクリングクラブ（ＣＣＣ）とこの戸倉上山田温泉旅館組合のコロボレーションで4月1日から始まったみどりのレンタサイクルは今日の新聞（地元の「信濃毎日」）に載りました。私がＣＣＣのメンバーでいながら、旅館の若旦那でもいるので両方と合わせて、この様に観光客が千曲市を自転車で楽しんで頂ける結果が出来ました。亀清旅館を含めて温泉街の6箇所に自転車が置いてあります。温泉街や周辺の町をぶらぶらしたり、千曲サイクリングロードで千曲川や周辺の山々の自然を見ながらのツーリング、お越しになって頂ける観光客が自転車を通じて戸倉上山田温泉と千曲市とのふれあいが出来る。
こういう良いニュースをどんどん作って行きたい！

The rental cycle project that started on April 1st as a colloboration between the Chikuma Cycling Club and the Togura Kamiyamada Onsen Ryokan Association got some press in the local Shinano Mainichi Shinbun newspaper. I hope visitors to our town can use the bikes to enjoy puttering around our onsen town and the neighboring historical districts, and/or enjoy the river and mountain scenery while touring along the Chikuma Cycling Road.

この戸倉上山田温泉にエコなレンタサイクルのプロジェクトで千曲サイクリングクラブと温泉旅館組合連合会のコロボレーションで自転車は１９台を準備しています。今日は自分と息子のＡｎｄｙ君とサイクリングクラブのメンバー、６人でこの１９台をエコグリーンの色を塗りました。サイクリングクラブは千曲市に頼んで、駅で捨てられた自転車を提供してもらって、戸倉上山田温泉の客さんが周辺を自転車で楽しんで頂ける（エコ！）、尚且つ捨てられた自転車の再利用（これもエコ！）。以前からあったおかみの会のピンク色の自転車も入れて、全部で１９台が綺麗な緑色になりました。これからはサイクリングクラブのメンバー達が仕上がって、観光協会及び旅館、全部で６箇所で置く予定です。亀清旅館はその１つです。温泉の宿泊者には一日２００円、一般は一日５００円という手ごろの価格で、是非、ご利用して下さい。

As part of Togura Kamiyamada Onsen's ecologically-minded project, the Chikuma Cycling Club in coloboration with the Ryokan Association, have started a project to provide rental cycles to guests of the onsen to explore the vicinity. Today, myself and son Andy and members of the Cycling Club, a total of six people painted the nineteen bicycles this eco-green color. The Cycling Club negotiated with the city to re-use these bicycles that had been thrown away. After the bikes dry and the Club members put the finishing touches on them, we will distribute them to 6 spots in the onsen, including Kamesei Ryokan, for use by onsen guests. The price is 200 yen per day for guests, and 500 yen for regular people. Come and enjoy Togura Kamiyamada Onsen by bike!

連休の週末で宿の方が忙しいけれど、天気が良くて・・・
せっかく自然で恵まれている信州に住んでいるから子供達を連れて、チャリ乗り!
今日は千曲川サイクリングトー度を稲荷山まで通って、そして桑原地区まで登りました。このルートは善光寺街道を通ります。私はの街道に残っている土壁の蔵の雰囲気が大好きです。尚且つ、自転車で通る場合はゆっくり見て楽しめる。
Andy君とKen君もよく頑張りました!

Even though our inn was busy with the 3-day weekend, it was such nice weather...
Since we're living here in Nagano blessed with such beautiful nature, I just had to take a break and get outside. So I took the kids for a nice bicycle ride. We started out riding along the Chikuma River Bicycle Path to Inariyama, and then followed the old Zenkoji Kaido -- the Edo-era road between Matsumoto and Zenkoji Temple in Nagano City. I just love the old earthen-walled "kura" storehouses and buildings that still remain from that period. And seeing them by bicycle allows you to enjoy them at a proper pace, rather than buzzing by them in a car.
I was really proud of Kenny and Andy -- they did really well on their bikes!
