15 – 1月 – 2009 – 信州戸倉上山田温泉旅館亀清

今朝に起きたら、「雪だ！」と思いました。玄関と回りの歩道の雪掛けをしてから、「あっ、そう言えば、露天風呂がきっと雪見になっているだろう」と思って、この写真を撮りました。こうやって見れば、日本の温泉文化は本当に素晴らしいですね。

This morning when I woke up and looked outside, "Snow!" After I shoveled our entrance and the sidewalks, I wondered how our outdoor bath's garden looks like with this snow and went and took this picture. This is the essence of Japan's onsen culture -- rich, warm mineral water surrounded by the beauty of nature!

上山田温泉の夏祭りは迫力がある祭りだいつも感心していました。今年は旅館青年部の仲間の特別誘いで野沢温泉の道祖神祭りに行って来ました。日本の三大火の祭りの１つです。凄かったです。上山田の夏祭りは情熱ですが、野沢温泉の火の祭りはとにかく凄いです。
火祭りツアーにも参加できましたので白い法被を頂きました。それが燃えて、穴だらけになりました。もう、感動しました。私の人生が変わりました、本当に。
一生に長野に住んでいて一度も行かなかった方がいらっしゃいます。是非、来年、行ってみてください。今年は白馬からオーストラリアのスキー達はバス三台も来ました。オーストラリアから来れるなら、同じ日本に住んでいる皆様も是非！
Kamiyamada Onsen's summer festival is full of energy. But today, I got to go to an even more intense festival: Nozawa Onsen's Fire Festival. It is truly a life changing event. Simply amazing.
One of my ryokan buddies gave me a special invitation to go, and we were able to partake in a special 'Festival Tour'. The white Happi coat I received is full of burn holes from the fires. The whole event was just so intense.
There are people who live in Nagano their whole lives and never go to Nozawa's Fire Festival. Today there were 3 bus loads of Australian skiiers from Hakuba. If people can come all the way from Australia to see it, everyone in Japan should, too.
