千曲市の森に有名な古墳があるけど、隣の長野市に大室というところで又違う形な古墳があります。実は何百個があるようです。今日、私が始めて見ました。今度、ハイキングしてゆっくり見たいと思った。
Here in our town we have a famous ancient burial tomb in Mori. But in next-door Nagano City, there are the Omuro Ancient Tombs, a series of several hundred small tombs. Today was my first time to see them -- I want to come back and hike the area to see more!

縄文土器作り
露天風呂の手作業は今日も続きました。階段のベースの周りに化粧板を貼りました。そして、ログハウス屋さんの村越さんからこのチェンソーアートの亀を頂きました。
Today I got some more work done on our outdoor bath -- I put a cedar plank covering over the base of the stairs. And I received a gift from log house builder Mr. Murakoshi -- a chainsaw art turtle!

亀清旅館のロビーの薪ストーブの今年の発使いです。ストーブの火はやはりやさしいですね。女将社長が曰く、コタツなどの発使いは本来なら犬の日が正しい出そうですが、１９日まで待てなくて。。。
We fired up the wood burning stove in Kamesei's lobby for the first time this season. Our okami-san said in the old days you used to wait for a 'dog day' to do so, but we can't wait until the 19th -- it's getting cold already!

親戚のみどりさんが周辺の山から野の花を集めてきて、こんなに綺麗なアレーンジを作ってくれました。亀清旅館のロビーに展示しております。
Cousin Midori gathered wildflowers in the nearby mountains and made this beautiful arrangement for us. We have it displayed in our lobby here at Kamesei Ryokan.

消火器の練習Fire Extinguisher training
この二日間は私が防火管理の講習を受けていました。我々旅館がその免許を持っている人が必ずいなくて行けない。私が免許を無事に取れました。ご来館の皆様のご安心、安全の為！
These past 2 days I've been taking classes at the local fire department to get fire prevention certification.

亀清旅館では、お茶菓子として、私の母親のレシピーで私の手作りのクッキーをよく出しております。そのレシピーは良く聞かれます。｢人に教えてしまえば、自分達で作るだけで亀清に来なくなるよ！｣と注意はされました。まあ、そんな小さい事。。。ここでレシピーを付けますので作る時に亀清の事を思い出して下さいね。(私が作る時に私のお母さんの事を思い出すように。）
Here at Kamesei Ryokan, the sweets we serve with tea are homemade cookies from my Mom's recipe, made by me. We get asked for the recipe quite often. Some advise me not to give it away -- that way people would have to come here if they want the cookies. Such a selfish thought! Here is the recipe. Please think of Kamesei when you use it (just as I think of my Mom when I bake the cookies).
そろそろ完成のできる露天風呂の庭に、こんな感じな鶴・亀が出来ます。亀(亀清旅館の亀？)は丸い石で出来ていて、鶴はとがっている石を立てました。もみじの木も入ります。臨時的に、私のアシスタント、従兄弟のＫｅｉ君、が代わりに立ってくれました。
As part of the garden for the outdoor bath that is nearing completion, we are making a Crane-Turtle combination. The turtle is made out of round-ish river rocks, and the crane out of pointed ones standing in the middle. A Japanese maple will round out the crane. Until it is installed, my assistant (cousin Kei) is standing in.

戸倉駅の上に天狗公園があります。そこでこのでかい天狗があります。町が作った時に、日本一を目指したようですが、出来上がって、図ってみたら。。。日本二でした。
On the way to taking the Tanigawa party to Togura Station, we stopped at Tengu Park behind the station to see the view.
この連休でバイク乗りのグループは２つも来てくれました。うちの美咲ちゃんも｢格好いい！｣と喜んでいます。
This holiday weekend we had 2 groups of bikers stay with us. Our daughter Misaki was ecstastic.

今年の露天風呂手作業プロジェクトがそろそろ完成です。今日はベンチを作りました。頂いた杉の木から作りました。
Our outdoor bath project is nearing completion. Today I built a bench using a cedar log I was given.
