Matt and Jessica's Wedding, Immaculate Conception Church, Seattle
亀清旅館のヒバで出来た露天風呂の側にネオンのガラスアートは一作品が飾ってあります。私のシアトルの友人、Ｍａｔｔさんが作ってくれました。最初はロビーに飾ってみたが、どう見ても合わなかった。そして、そのヒバの露天風呂を作った時に、狭い場所に無理矢理に設置した様な事でした。目を遊ばせる何かが欲しかった。そこで、Ｍａｔｔさんのネオン作品を思い付きました。お風呂の周りに竹で出来た塀を作っていて、「もしかしたらそのネオンのアートは竹の中に入るかも」との発想。
Ｍａｔｔさんは私が一番最初に作った「１００年風呂」露天風呂を作った時に、亀清で滞在して、お風呂作りに手伝ってくれました。
また違う時にＭａｔｔさんは秋に来て、地元の皮閉科神社の中秋際に一緒にお相撲をやりました。
そのＭａｔｔさんは９月１日にシアトルで結婚しました。もっとも仲良い友人との事で、私がシアトルに飛んで、結婚式に参加しました。

Next to Kamesei Ryokan's outdoor bath made of yellow cedar is a piece of neon glass art, made by my best friend Matt Stiger. Actually, at first we had that artwork on display in our inn's lobby, but it just didn't match the overall ambience. And when I built that outdoor bath, I there wasn't much space to work with. It left me wanting something to entertain the eye. As I was putting together the bamboo screen around the bath, I was struck by the idea of putting Matt's neon crackle tube in one of the pieces of bamboo.
Matt was also here when I built our first outdoor bath, the 100-Year Bath, and helped out immensely with that construction.
And he was here another time in the fall, just in time for our local shrine's Autumn Festival. Matt and I participated in the sumo tournament together.
Matt got married in Seattle on September 1st. With all of these important connections, I just had to take a week off from Kamesei and fly home to attend his wedding. Here is a picture from the ceremony.
